I see the Bots as a good thing. The more search results that feature the BB the better, as it's more exposure for the game.

On a related note: What can be done to re-improve the board's spam protection we already used to have with phpBB2? I guess I'm not the only one noticing a vast increase of registered spam bots since we have the new board. There's a little too much buzz for my taste in the clock tower lately.
I mentioned somewhere else the old system we used to have where members could not post links until a certain time had elapsed/they had made a certain number of posts. Can this not be re-introduced?
We have a hack on aforementioned other board that new user posts do not appear until approved by a moderator or admin (and a maximum of I think 6 posts can be made per account and held in the approval queue).

It adds a little extra work for we mods, but it works very well in stopping normal users from seeing any kind of spam (presuming we don't approve something or someone by mistake of course). And once a post has been approved for a given account, then no further approval is needed for subsequent posts.

I would recommend it as a consideration if some new security measures are desired.

According to a L33t translator, m4r35n357 (https://bb.oolite.space/memberlist.php?m ... ile&u=3968) means maresnest. Can't say I'm convinced, though. (Nothing on SFS on either version of the name.)

The e-mail address looks plausible.

Yep. Diet Spam in Russian.
Personally, I liked how one 'Diet' slipped in amongst the 'Диета's...

Right. I guess the one-in-thirty(plus) ratio is making me twitchy. Moving on.

And EV - wipes out a Scrabble-name generated Spammer (who was online) while I was checking it out on SFS.... what a team! (no hits on SFS - but still a spammer!)

It had a link in its profile to a porn site... it's a link I'm starting to see often.

Removing it from your bookmarks should take care of that...

On a more serious note: Does anyone here report our findings to SFS? And by anyone, I really mean anyone with access to IP addresses. I must admit I've not gone beyond the simple search function there, but I would imagine their spammer lists don't build themselves.

That is complicated, I think, and would be up to Giles.
