Was that a reference to the new "crafting" mechanics that are supposed to be in the Horizons update? Yeah, I thought that was a bit... well, different. Next thing you know it will be a RTS game. And with powerplay it's already a "Risk" clone. Plus a space sim. And if they ever get to the "You can leave your ship" part, it will be a FPS game as well. Cool! All you need now is a connect-3 game element, and an endless runner element and every possible game type will be in there!

Risk in Space? I was playing something like that back in '74 - good game!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Was that something like 'Imperium', that was what I was playing late in the 70's. It was a 2-player conquest board game where the Federation was just expanding out of Sol and the Imperials (the ancient rulers of the galaxy) were just coming to blows in the regional neighbourhood of Sol. The board had about 40-50 stars and the game lasted maybe about 10 turns. I added another couple of star faring races and increased the board to about 3 times the size, much more satisfying.

I owned that game. Played it once. Couldn't find anyone to play it. And the guy I played it with once wasn't interested in playing it again. I eventually sold it to our local game store for store credit. I haven't checked to see if he made any money on it.

At last, ED crawls into the 21st century - the new launcher for Horizons is 64-bit. The base game remains 32-bit.
Not only that, but they've thrown us backers a bone - a free Midnight black shipskin. Joy unbounded!

And here I was thinking that you were cynical. I'm sure it'll be a suitable paint job for a dark and brooding contrabandista. Might be a bit understated for 'in your face' selfies :P

The game engine is going 64 bit also for the Horizon release. Something about not getting the planets to render in sufficient quality in 32 bit. I asked whether this was going to happen several months ago from FD support as the min spec processors (quad core) were all 64 bit, at the time they wanted to reach as many client machines as possible.

I actually was able to play a bit with ED. I installed El Capitan on my Mac and the performance improved. I have to say that Elite Dangerous is more impressive as you actually play it. However I still think that Oolite is more the game you could get in much faster. For a session of ED you have to really 'dig in' your computer room. I do fly with a Logitech Joystick and its nice. Done some deliverys and some combat missions. Still Oolite feels much more alive.

I can now say with confidence that there is still a place for Oolite and it's a good one.

I did look at all the previews of Horizons and its impressive. But not as colorful as the worlds in Pioneer (yet).
So all games (Elite Dangerous, Oolite and Pioneer) can coexist happily together. They all bring something different to the table.

On another note. Sorry that I didn't accept all friend requests yet at the Frontier Forums. I can log in ED but not on the Forum at the moment. When able to I will look in to that. Also haven't done any multiplayer but I plan to fly solo for a while.
