<groans> Oh dear! My opinion of
The Dark Wheel is well-known on this forum - I'll say no more!

They can't force you to read it you know.
I liked it though.

Hmm... were you by any chance a teenager at the time of reading (as so many fans of it were)?
As I remarked in an earlier post, I wouldn't be surprised if Raxxla made an appearance in-game - but...

I don't like this new idea of theirs to raise money at all, they should be paying authors to write stories about their stuff not the other way around
anyway, in other news, i'm a bit drunk and freebird has come on the mp3 player so it's not all bad

I agree. As much as I am up for this (and have pledged) it does sound a bit like "pay us and then we'll let you publicise us" and a bit of a desperate grab at something to add to the kickstarter to make it a bit more interesting. I much prefer the oolite method of writing fiction then potentially creating an oxp to bring it in to the game.
It really feels like they've cocked up this kickstarter - almost like they imagined that the name "elite" and frontier would bring people in without putting in the effort.

I'm in a similar position however its pink floyd for me - either way beer & good guitar takes your mind of rubbish decisions by game developers

Yes I was, and I admit that it's not something I would pick up today.
And if they put Raxxla in Elite: Dangerous I will start hunting for a good Hex editor to get it out. (Unless they make it the home planet of the founding members of the Elite.
)

One wonders if there may be a
Raxxla out there... somewhere!

If anyone has £4500 to spare they can buy the right to write a commercial piece of fiction for the universe, including having a few planets, stations, etc. conveniently positioned. I wonder if there'll be any takers for that.
This has to be by request, I can't imagine FD having come up with this unless there was some sort of request for it. The way I read it, since you retain all rights to your work, you are basically buying a an in-game scenario that fits your work, as well as assistance to get the work published. I kind of like the concept, but maybe not as a pledge. You do get to model your own system though, not just name it. Curious if there are going to be any takers on that one.

Have you got that Live in Gdansk CD/DVD? Awesome stuff! What they used to say about Gilmour is: 'he knows which notes
not to play!'
But Rick Wright was really the heart and soul of Pink Floyd!

OT @ El Viejo & Griff - the weirdest thing I heard about live in Gdansk is that David Gilmore froze his guitar leads to get a better sound! (fact courtesy of planet rock, therefore not mine
)
I do agree about Rick Wright being the heart of the band,though - I always thought that Nick Mason had the easiest job in rock until I saw live in Pompeii.

I'm afraid not, i'm one of these 'best of' 'fans',
i've only got the Echoes album, will definately investigate the Gdansk dvd though

was that the mad film they made of them playing in some old roman Coliseum? I'm sure they showed that on the TV a while back, it was a bit odd

Off-topic is fine in this thread - I'm the thread author, after all! I saw them live many times in the '60s and '70s - superb!
Griff - highly recommended, is that CD/DVD - the atmosphere in the crowd is electric! As for Nick Mason - I'm an old drummer (not the only one on this forum, either), and although his technique wasn't the best, his contribution was always top-notch.
