I'll give you another one...
... to which I'd reply: a real-time, turn-based, pure strategy game of interstellar conflict. <chuckles - recalls 4000 AD>

My reaction to the new "power play" landscape in Elite dangerous?
I'm off to explore the Horsehead Nebula.
F*** Politics. I bought this game to see pretty things.

Gotta agree with your sentiment. I still have to find reason to care about the 'living' galaxy that FDEV are attempting to create.
I wonder how long before we see planetary landings...and where's f**king pause button when I'm playing solo? I can accept that the background galaxy simulation (markets etc) can't be paused but why can't I pause the (solo) game in the middle of a dogfight that is being hosted on my computer only?

I've begun to wonder if we'll ever see planetary landing, and even if we do, I fear it may be disappointing!
It is difficult to be positive about ED, and my opinion of FD themselves is... hmm, not too good!
Docking/landing is excellent though, as is the flight model.

FD have a way of doing things that is directed by their management model. It might not be the most productive or "customer friendly" method, but it does create an end result.
I think we'll see planetary landings eventually. I suppose that one thing I can agree with them is that they won't release something until they think it's good enough (which is different to saying it's bug free).
There's a lot to be positive about in ED. It's a very well designed game, and the modelling of the galaxy and the stuff that inhabits it is amazing. Awesome graphics, beautiful ships, gorgeous stations and (controversially) a game model that is very evocative of original Elite - much more so than the Frontier series. I also think it's a very expandable framework that FD will be able to plug a lot of things into (and not just political stuff).
What they've given us is a good game. It's not great as far as gameplay is concerned, but it's good. With more expansions it has the potential to be great. And, of course, it will never be the game EVERYONE wants, because every different person has a different idea what their perfect iteration of Elite will be. And some people just can't separate the bad from the good. Powerplay for example, has polarised people. Some say it breaks the game and makes it rubbish. I say that Powerplay is an optional extra. If you don't like it, don't get involved with it.

Essentially, David Braben is the boss. ED is his baby. I have little doubt that any decisions about ED's development have be approved by him before being released.
This means that, if it is indeed the case, the development model is "plan, approve, develop, test, release" which is a common model for a lot of different products. But the approval stage is a bottleneck with one man's approval being required. And if there are a lot of things to approve, David is a very busy man and can only move forward through the items at a finite speed. Although, to be honest it's likely that Mr Brookes and his many clones probably filter a lot of that stuff into a much more user-friendly format.
The "end result" I noted is that, if the above is indeed the case, then the single-source approval will create a consistent and uniform "vision" that will be held to throughout the game's life cycle. I hear a lot of bad press about Frontier and David, but they do have a vision for Elite, and I don't think David will compromise on that vision. I'm not saying I agree with every decision, mind. Personally there are things in ED that I think could be done better or shouldn't be there at all. But that's me. And my opinions on that are subjective and not really relevant.
I'm more of the "wait and see" type.

There's a surprise - XBox One users get some new content first, before KS backers and PC/Mac users. <grins wryly>

The forums are predictably in uproar, since they wanted to hate the very idea of this first on PC.

Elite:Dangerous is not Elite. What a pity.
There, I said it.

CQC goes beyond our original vision for Elite: Dangerous. It's a new PVP mode accessed from the main menu, launching you into instant combat on custom maps in twelve-player Free For All Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture The Flag
I can barely contain my excitement!

Oh, sh*t, woo! They made it unreal tournament.........
If they'd finished that statement with "dance bitches dance!" then I would have given them full marks for honesty. As it is 3 out of 10.
I am reminded of Hell Raiser 3......
"Bring him into my world where I have dominion."
Too busy twatting each other to realise the REAL game is to embellish the game. Not simply 'play' in it.
There is an anarchy in oolite. It is the anarchy of choice. You select the world you play in. There is the joy, and there is the realisation that you made the bed your lying in.
