On another note, not very happy with the way the Kickstarter is developing.
If I have inferred the correct meaning to that, I agree with you. The monetary gains have dropped to a crawl.

He needs to add more of the higher priced incentives (£3000+). They went like hot cakes, and there will undoubtedly be more people out there who will pay those prices. More intermediary pledges need to be added two, maybe at the £1000 level and up.

They have updated the FAQ on the Kickstarter page with a better explanation on how multi-player will work. I like the concept.
Agreed.. some good ideas there.. especially for dealing with 'griefers'..

Ye know, I got the email from Kickstarter telling me this 4 hours after I read about it on Oolite.

Oolite - at the leading edge of EVERYTHING.

I shall be trying this on the weekend. I've already got RiscOS running on my Raspberry Pi.

Cheers,

Drew.

I'm travelling this weekend, so I'll be doing this sometime next week. Please report progress.
Unfortunately I cant use the screen on my laptop for my RPi, and VNC doesn't cut it for games. Otherwise I would have taken the Pi with me.

Quite interesting that. He's not a natural presenter, is he, ol' DB? Comes across a bit nervy.

Still, rings/asteroid field looked good and I like the idea of hiding the clouds of a gas giant to avoid detection. I used something like that in 'Incursio'... :D

Good to see more updates coming, but none of those pics were hi-rez! :(

Cheers,

Drew.

I have now watched the video on procedural generation several times, and I like it even more. Imagine combat in the upper atmosphere of a gas giant or in the corona of the sun. If you haven't seen it, it's worth having a look even if you have absolutely no intention of backing Elite: Dangerous.

Just been reading through the comments pages again, this bit of banter between two posters made me laugh

@OriginalBadBoy.
In Oolite the AI ships beg for mercy and jettison their cargo.
Its a nice touch. Made me think of you.

Yeah... he's right though, it is a nice touch. I wouldn't mind seeing the occasional defiant in defeat message too.

For that matter, taunting as they try and chase you down. Or frustration when they can't find you in the gas giant thunderheads.
I assume there will be NPC's in this game?

Yep!
You simply play the game, and depending on your configuration (your choice) some of the other ships you meet as you travel around are real players as opposed to computer-controlled ships. It may be a friend you have agreed to rendezvous with here, or it may be another real player you have encountered by chance. All players will be part of a “Pilot’s Federation” – that is how they are distinguished from non-players – so you will be able to tell who is a player and who is a non-player easily.
I was actually thinking of Oolite having extra messages, though.

Latest update: apparently there will be an official sequel to the "Dark Wheel". Presumably, Alex Ryder's search for Raxxla.

If anyone has £4500 to spare they can buy the right to write a commercial piece of fiction for the universe, including having a few planets, stations, etc. conveniently positioned. I wonder if there'll be any takers for that.

WTF. They thought that would be a good idea to help raise money for the kickstarter fund over at Frontier Developments? I can't see that being popular. People want a boxed version of the game with maps and stuff and they should be paying £4500 to the best fanfic writers for a novella to go in it
