Name the novel, the author and the AI character.

Tried to make it harder than it is, because it's a relatively modern, famous series.

The Ship Who Sang (or more generally the Brainship series), Anne McCaffrey, Helva. Although she’s not an AI, and I’m pretty sure there aren’t any.

First clue: the author is probably better known for a series of SF novels aimed at older children and teenagers.
