(Now imagine, if you will, how long it would take to paint your ship using the same size paint can and brush you used on your AirFix models...)

Hello,

Sorry if I have missed this in a FAQ or something. Is it possible to have billboards, featuring the YAH images, without actually having the entire YAH OXP?

The reason I'm asking is that (with absolutely no offence to the creators and contributors!!) I don't really like what constores do to the game balance. They simply add an easier trading option with no real risk attached (with the Escorts OXP, I don't feel like I'm missing out by not having access to the Oo-Haul OXP). And while I admit that "If you don't like what's inside, don't dock with them" is a reasonable strategy, it's never really worked for me in my dating life, let alone Oolite gameplay...

But I do appreciate the effort people put into making the ads and it would be nice to sample some of them. I've seen that, with Commies OXP installed, the nav buoy is sometimes replaced with a slogan billboard. Is there any similar way of having billboards featuring ads from the YAH set appear, without having the constores show up?

Thanks, and please feel free to slap me to another thread if this question has already been asked and answered,
~ Sam

I think this has been asked before, and it's a sentiment I second.
I removed YAH because of the constores as well, but for a different reason. In normal play I use TG2 Armageddon which places a large pirate blockade at some witchpoints, and I just couldn't reconcile having this and the constore in the same area...it just didn't make sense.
But I would like the billboard buoys as they are great eye-candy.
Perhaps there is a case to seperate these two elements, so you can install the constores and billboards separately.

You could (and I should add a caveat that I haven't tested this, nor am I utterly sure what I'm doing) try opening up the Your Ad Here OXP, and editing the your-ad-here.js script. Find the lines that say

Code: Select all

   this.addConstoreIfPossible();
and remove them. You could also, for neatness's sake, remove the bit that says

Code: Select all

this.addConstoreIfPossible = function ()
{
   if (system.government > 0 && !system.isInterstellarSpace && !system.sun.isGoingNova && system.population > 40)
   {
        var constore = this.addShipsNoRings("constore", 1, [0, 5E3, -30E3], 10E3)[0];
        constore.orientation = [1,0,1,0]; // Orientate the side to the main planet for best view from the spacelane.
        this.addShipsNoRings("constore-buoy", 1, constore.position.add(constore.heading.multiply(10E3)), 1);
   }
}
Use a text editor, but don't, in the name of all that's holy, use Notepad, because it steals your soul and emails it to Bill Gates or something. And adds in special super-duper Microsoft extra bits just to prevent things from working. Seriously. use Notepad++ or something instead (and ignore all this if you're using something other than Windows). Restart the game, holding down the shift key, and see what happens.

I'm well confused.

I have YAH to YAH-F installed and the nav beacons and witchpoint beacons are often billboards. But I have never seen a constore, and have no recollection of changing anything to disable them.

Assuming you've got the latest version installed, constores should appear, near the witchpoint, in any politically stable-ish system with a population of 4 billion plus ... if you want to make certain, jump into a high-population Corporate State and check your ASC for the letter "C".

You are flying directly AWAY from the planet at the Witchspace beacon aren't you? The Constores are on the line between beacon and planet but out towards deep space - not far - just far enough to be off the scanner when you jump in.

If that's the case then something else is going on - and I can't think offhand why you may be missing the Constores.

I have quadruple checked by visiting a number of large stable systems and flying outward - no, no sign of any Constores.

I have had YAH installed for many months; most of the time I have had Oolite installed and don't recall ever seeing one, but do see the ads.

It is version 4.1.5 of YAH; I see version 4.1.7 says "Fixed a bug that prevent a proper function with Oolite 1.75" - maybe it is something to do with that.

And you know what - I don't think I am going to fix this. I don't want the constores either.

Edit: These two lines from the log file probably give all the necessary clues:

Code: Select all

10:05:34.281 [script.javaScript.exception.notFunction]: ***** JavaScript exception (Pi-Forty-Two Con stores 4.1.5): TypeError: System.addShips is not a function
10:05:34.281 [script.javaScript.exception.notFunction]:       ../AddOns/YOUR_AD_HERE.oxp/Scripts/your_ad_here.js, line 24.

I saw Kevin "Bloody" Wilson live in Swansea, South Wales, on his DILLIGAF tour. I got one of his mugs & T-Shirts.

As I have explained ever since, DILLIGAF is a Welsh word that means "I care passionately about your feelings and I am in full accord with your views".

i ran by this acronym first time as the name of a boat. someone commented that if they ever have to make a distress call on the radio, they might just get their name as answer.

Being Welsh myself, I know it's not a Welsh word, so I googled it to see what it meant. I like your interpretation of it!
