I didn't name my NPC after my commander name, part(s) of which may appear on an NPC (I think).
However, if you should encounter a sombreroed NPC with a single name, that'll be him - comprendes?

This comment of Cody's would seem to me to be the answer.. the player got to name an NPC as part of their backer's pledge reward.

I guess then it not only fits its role, but looks the part

The Cobra makes horrible creaking noises when maneuvering* - one of the many little things that I dislike about the game!
Having now accumulated enough money to buy a Cobra ... all I'll say is that it sounds far better than the Adder did.

Oh dear! I've only tried the Sidewinder and Cobra, so far. How do you like the smeared windscreen?

I don't like the idea of creaking sounds when you turn at all, but I would like to know if it has camera shake/vibration when you go really fast? (Something that's on my OXP to-do list, but it would be great if Someone Else beat me to it.)

I thought it was overdone on the Sidewinder. Seems okay on the Cobra, so far, but I haven't been flying it long and I might just not have turned at the wrong angle to the star yet.
The Adder's a really nice step up from the Sidewinder with just three drawbacks
- the view isn't great (especially for an "exploration" ship)
- it objects noisily if you try to turn at full speed
- it doesn't look anything like an Adder
Wildeblood wrote:I would like to know if it has camera shake/vibration when you go really fast?
A bit, yes, especially when accelerating or decelerating sharply.

For the record, my
Cobra MkIII appears to be mostly metallic blue. I refused point-blank to pay £10 for that lovely limited-edition chrome skin, you see!
Kind of? Good to see FD finally listen to the customers...

Listen to their customers? Yeah, right!

Yes, especially the last part (same goes for the new FDL)
But then, if all the old school elite ships resembled their counterparts, it would be a very blocky universe

Dyson Orbital - an outpost platform in a low security system 111ly from Sol. Dropped in, ran the IDS, found a bunch of astronomical objects, and scanned 'em all. I ain't exactly exploring (nor trading) - I'm simply meandering around, scraping a few thousand credits here and there selling planetary data. Now I check the system chart - yep, all planets/moons displayed and numbered. Fine - except for the First Discovered By [commander name] tag on each and every one of them. It's like Kilroy Was Here everywhere you bloody well go! As an aside: Creaking Door would be a worthy name for my ship (a damn good read, is Bomber).

I have developed such a like | hate relationship with this game (I will never love this game). I feel dirty every time I click on the ED shortcut.
Once again, my limited gaming time is lost to the ever present Upgrade Now. F**k this, back to Oolite. I've started a new commander and am really struggling to get by on the parcel runs in my (mostly) unmodified Cobra. Finally scraped together enough credits to afford injectors - that makes me feel a little safer...but safe enough to attempt a shortcut through an anarchy, with a 6+ LY jump in and out?
It's tempting but I'm not in my iron-assed Boa II any more.

<grins> That would definitely be asking for trouble, I reckon!
As for ED: I doubt I'll progress far - too much in-game time required, for a game that hasn't grabbed me!

This is from the in-game GalNet news, I believe - rather sad, in my opinion.

Cody, your link goes to an authentication page for the forums.... but putting in nvidia cards as part of the game is sad for of commercialism.
