Sorry for the delay. Issues. You know how it is.

Question. In what novel would you find an interplanetary drive that propels a ship by making it simultaneously exist at every point in the universe then semi-randomly "choose" which one to exist at?

Bonus kudos if you can tell us how the novel says that a traveller should prepare for the journey...

;-)

This will be the Infinite Improbability Drive from HitchHikers Guide.
According to the Guide...the drive "passes through every conceivable point in every conceivable universe almost simultaneously," meaning the traveller is "never sure where they'll end up or even what species they'll be when they get there" and therefore it's important to dress accordingly.

Call me weird, but I've always thought that improbability drive made a lot of sense. It sounds so believably probable....

<Smivs goes off to think of a new question...>

OK, another picture clue.
What type of ship is this, and what TV series is it from?

Is it an SA-43 "Hammerhead" from "Space: Above and Beyond"?

Okay, here's the next one.

The ruler of a planetary system in many respects similar to Reenus launches an invasion of another system for the sole purpose of killing their likely successor.

Name the ruler and their system.

Could it perhaps be the Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, whose home system is Kaitain?

It could be, but that's not the one I'm thinking of.

Clues: The story this takes place in is one of a large series of stories by the same author in the same setting, and chronologically is one of the earliest.

Both Reenus and the system I'm looking for are agricultural feudal worlds, but they also share another property which is of distinct military importance to the system's inhabitants.
