Pirates and Privateers - Know the Code
First of all, none of us go "arrrr" unless we're having a laugh. Let's get that out of the way right now.
How on earth (or in space for that matter) can you do 'Pirate' without "Arrr"
Having said that, there are few terms that might work as is (or with 'spacing up' a bit) -
Barnacle - Someone who hangs around and is hard to get rid of. Maybe a term for an interdiction episode; "I've picked up a barnacle"
Limpet - Someone who is getting the better of an 'action'; "He's a bit of a limpet." "I've got a limpet on my six."
Dog/Mongrel - Anyone who is perceived as a rival/enemy who perhaps escaped or wins an 'action'; "I'll be back to get you, dog", "Run you cowardly dog", "The mongrel took me apart".
Matey - a neutral term of address (esp. in Britain and the colonies)
Stand down - Surrender; "Stand down matey or you'll be chewing space dust"
And you've got to have a few (clean) Piratey adjectives -
Black, Mangey, Scurvy, Poxy - as in "I blasted the mangey mongrel out of the sky, the Poxy Black Suited Sun God"
As I'm in the mining industry, you've got me thinking about mining terms that might work. Unfortunately most miners explete every second word, so it might be a little hard to give good contextural meaning to the terms.
G'Day, Wotcher, Hi there - Hello (Wotcher may be an abbreviated mangle of what d'ya know)
What d'ya know - General ice breaker. Any news, gossip or useful info
Not much, you - Standard reply to 'What d'ya know'
Yep, Yeah, Yessiree - Yes
Nup, Nope, Nahh - No
edit: forgot Cheers - Thanks
F**k Off - General negative statement cf. Leave. Not saying. No way.
[expletive] - as noun, verb or adjective; "The [explet]ing [explet]ers [explet]ed"
Working, Digging, Drilling, Blasting - the act of mining
Pit/Prospect/Patch - place where mining occurs; "Workingh down't pit", "Out drilling my patch"
Digger, Equipment - Mining equipment - refers to ship, scanner, lasers, scoop (and perhaps refinery)
Ore, Sh!t - Stuff mined
Mullock, Waste, Crap - Not ore
Good, High Grade - quality descriptor of 'Sh!t'
Tonnes, Sh!tloads - quantity descriptor of 'Sh!t'
Drill, Blast - Use mining lasers; "...the sh!t"
Dig, Mine - Use the (mining) equipment; "...the sh!t"
Collect, Pick Up - Scoop, Retrieve; "...the sh!t"
Haul - Transport; "...the sh!t"
Dump - Offload, Sell; "...the sh!t"
Piece of Sh!t/Crap - Reference to bad/worse Equipment/Patch/Prospect
Blokes, Mates - Generic for miners and those friendly to them
Folks - generic for Not miners
Rock Licker/Rock Hopper - System Explorer/Surveyor. Tech specialist subclass of Not miner
Coldie - Alcohol (esp. beer), anything but namby-pamby wine or lolly water
"Not much. A [explet] rock hopper [explet] told me about this [explet] piece of sh!t, it's nothing but mullock, a [explet] piece of crap, you can't blast [explet] out of this sh!t, how am I supposed to [explet] make a living, [explet]! I think I'll go and see me mate, he's got some [explet] good sh!t, [explet] sh!tloads of it. He's a [explet] good bloke; if I buy him a couple of coldies, maybe he'll let me haul for him. Cheers, thanks for asking, now [explet] off."
Not extensive, but probably sufficient for a miner
