There are sufficient references on the internet to confirm you have the right answer if you know it, but true, probably not enough from the clues I've given to find it if you don't.

Okay, today's clues, then:
It's a short story, by a writer well-known for their anthologies.

During the duel, George is warned by a police helicopter for a rules infringement. His winning tactic, while unorthodox, was on the other hand entirely legal.

Well before I attempt a googlethon, this does smell of 'the running man' also by PKD (I do read other Authors :))

Still no-one? Some more clues which might be searchable.

The story is said to have inspired a game by Steve Jackson, and director Alex Proyas was rumoured to be working on a film adaptation.

Weapons used in the story include lasers, induction beams, 7.6mm Spandaus, and buzzsaws.

George's opponent, Mr Bonney, was the top duelist in their region.
