Just a quick visit to say Merry Christmas everyone!

Oh, and in 1.74 we ~~should~~ will have custom backgrounds for the various F-something screens. ~~there's still an annoying graphic glitch when we've got spinning ships on the foreground, but I'm getting there~~

In 1.74, the galaxy charts are going to look a lot like this:

Well, I'd rather have Deepspace - or you - do that, that's why they're customisable in the first place!

Agree with Kaks here. The core game will have to stay humble and simple. The two backgrounds Kaks has inserted in the charts a) fit nicely and b) show what the engine can now do, without going over the top (yes, I do think that spreading backgrounds all over the place goes over the top). In the next release, the way to insert backgrounds will be fully documented in the new screenbackgrounds.plist, so OXPers will be able to add them as they wish. For those intersted, feel free to check out the nightlies.

I was mucking around with YourAdHere, too see how many frames i could get for the billboard, was originally going to go for 16, but went with 8 for this one, seemed to run fine on my system...

Yes, it is a strange pic to choose for the animation... i have no idea why i picked this one... maybe because it's hypnotic...

The new planets are slowly coming along:

Apart from a distinct lack of atmosphere, there's still quite a lot to do, but at least terrain elevation and coastlines are starting to look good!

ADCK, about that sign, it's definitely hypnotic, but I'm not too sure whether we'd be entitled to use it in YAH. Has the image been donated to the public domain?

I had no intention of releasing that anyways lol, it was just a test to see how many frames/level of detail on animated object,
and i needed a pic to test and for some reason that one came to mind... as for the animation itself...
google "caramelldansen"... theres like 10000 diff versions of that animation, it was just some internet meme,
AFAIK as long as you dont profit of the image you could use it whereever you want.

You could always ask the band if it's OK for us to use their dancing girls inside Oolite. More likely than not, they won't have a problem, and they might even start playing Oolite too!

The "Fruity Oaty Bar Commercial" (which is a hidden feature/easter egg on the DVD, you can see the whole Fruity Oaty Bar commercial in its entirety, full screen. It Be Amusing).

Thats what I thought of when I first saw a Neon Trade Outpost in a YouTube video (at present I have the Galcop_trade_outpost OXP running, but can't QUITE bring myself to install YourAdHere ... the thought of tumbling billboards bothers me for some reason. If they were rotating spheres, now...).

It would be something, I think, to put the Fruity Oaty Bar commercial on the trade outpost / and / or / floating adverts. Just a few selected frames as a tribute to Joss Whedon, and the Firefly universe.
