The GT620 is bound to struggle, I'm afraid.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
I have a GT620M in my laptop and the game seemed ok but when I got my new desktop with a GTX 980 I immediately saw the difference. I'd recommend getting a 700 or 900 series GPU if you're going to upgrade.
Also with regards to what Cody said about GFE I don't like it's optimised settings I just use it as a base to change and tweak from, but I do use ShadowPlay. Also it's become a necessary evil as when I tried to uninstall it my display drivers didn't work properly even if I manually downloaded them. Yet when I reinstalled GFE it was fine again. I wonder if Nvidia have made it compulsory on newer cards?

That'll be better but only marginally. I would save up and get something a bit beefier!mossfoot wrote:What about this card (the only one I can afford right now)Cody wrote:The GT620 is bound to struggle, I'm afraid.

Only marginally? I will never understand computer stats. On paper it looks like an order of magnitude better.Pleb wrote:That'll be better but only marginally. Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
Well it won't be that marginal, the performance increase will in fact be quite good in comparison to your current card:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/compa ... cmp[]=1431
However the GT 630 is still going to be inferior to a lot of newer cards, but I suppose it comes down to money at the end of the day. If you're looking for a quick fix get the GT 630, but if you want something that is going to last longer get a newer card.

How about this? More than I want to spend, but it is in the GTX line...

Okay, last time bugging y'all, I promise. I found a new/used computer store and here's the list of their NVIDIA video cards. Prices look right, I see some GTX models under 150... any recommendations?

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
Too many to look through, but if you can find a GTX 750Ti that fits your budget, I'd get one of those (the Ti suffix is important).
What is your PSU, btw - that can have a bearing on which card you can fit.

I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
What about a GTX 650 TI? The benchmarks don't seem to show a huge difference between the 650Ti and 750Ti. I only ask because I found the 650 Ti in stock in a store I can reach.Cody wrote:Too many to look through, but if you can find a GTX 750Ti that fits your budget, I'd get one of those (the Ti suffix is important).
however I did see this version of the 750 Ti for the same price on Amazon (it's actually cheaper than listed, at $150):

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
I think a GTX 650Ti will run the game, but it will want plenty of power - much more than a GTX 750Ti, I believe.
That one on Amazon - the EVGA Superclocked 2GB version - looks good, btw. Again, check your PSU though.

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
If you do, be sure to register it (within 14 days) with EVGA - they provide good product support, a three-year warranty (usually), and a step-up option.
Meanwhile, over on the Elite forum the natives are restless - and FD have gone MIA.

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
Well regardless of how ED goes, I recon having that card will be more of an investment in the long run
Geeze.... I can only wonder how Oolite will run on this system now
Thanks again for the advice.
