Nice! Could have used a bit more combat footage, but still, very good indeed.another_commander wrote:As far as I am concerned, the Elite Dangerous trailer is this (fan-made btw): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BgvGLptN18

Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Well,
the count down has begun for the offical start of the game... it may be rather quiet on the forum here while everyone tries out the new kid on the block but lets hear about your exploits... good and bad so we can appreciate Oolite even more.

I doubt I'll bother for a couple of days! In other news, cash prizes for reaching Elite rank - oh dear!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

People have found a way to tweak the terrible orange UI. Makes me glad Oolite is so easily moddable!

Not so surprising really.. didn't they do that back when the original Elite was released?Cody wrote:In other news, cash prizes for reaching Elite rank - oh dear!

Indeed - but I'd hoped they wouldn't repeat it. There are quite a few things that I dislike about both the game and FD, tbh - ho-hum!Diziet Sma wrote:.. didn't they do that back when the original Elite was released?

One thing that I really hate is the pilot (me?) regularly flexing his damn hand - drives me crackers, it does!

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
I try to ignore it but it's hard on my 40" TV not to see it! I don't really want to see the pilot and I'm not looking forward to the whole getting out if the ship thing they have planned.
Landing on planets and flying inside the atmosphere of planets on the other hand does sound good! Was one of the best parts of Frontier and FFE.

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
I asked my missus to get me the game for xmas, I don't know what she went for (I'm thinking that she went for the downloadable version as this is more prominent on the site) but she said she was worried that she'd not heard anything from E:D, has anyone bought either the downloadable or the disk 'upgrade' and knows what happens next?

Re: David Braben's Elite: Dangerous
I just bought the box upgrade as an add-on to my early backer download and received an order confirmation immediately. That boxed version is only available for pre-order though, so it wouldn't be anything you would be receiving for christmas. I assume once you buy the digital download you just go the shop and download it...

Log-in to the store and go to My Downloadable Products - if the order has been processed, the game should be available to download. Forget the disk version!NigelJK wrote:... knows what happens next?
