Hello everyone. I recently discovered oolite and I must say I am so impressed with what you guys have done with it. Bravo!

Only been playing a few days so a few, perhaps silly, questions may be coming your way so please be kind.

Cheers for now.

G'day xfury, and welcome aboard! 8)

Questions are only silly if you don't ask them.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

I never played Elite before. My first computer was a Commodore and then a built PC then a Mac SE and it was Macs all the way after that. Looks like a fun way to pass some time and maybe even make some new friends along the way. Here I come, universe!

HOLA!!
Been lurking for the past few weeks after discovering Oolite while looking for a downloadable disc image of Elite II to use with my copy of 'Amiga Forever'.

How I NEVER heard of this game before has really been driving me batty. Oh well, now that I've finally decided to join the community expect a few questions to be thrown your way. After reading through a few hundred pages here I do have a few (I didn't expect to ask is why I can't load an avatar or create a signature via the UCP - I'm sure I missed something somewhere).

The Ooniverse as you've known it will never be the same again. :>)

Hi hauitsme, welcome to the boards! If you can find a friendlier place this side of Riedquat, we'll refund your membership fee. :)

I think the issue with avatars and signatures is an anti-spam thing: you have to prove you're human (or at least capable of passing a Turing test ;)) before you can upload an avatar or change a signature. You might be able to do it now you've introduced yourself - give it a try now. If not it might take a small number of posts (5 or so) before that option is turned on.

You're amongst good company and of course some of us immediately feel the need to state they met Elite for the first time on a C64

Well, I've posted some stuff in this forum, so this is not my introduction, but well... I'm crazy about Oolite since 3 weeks or some, I'm an old player (ZX-Spectrum), but I didn't enjoy the old good Elite like I'm enjoying this wonderful Oolite, I'm very impressed of the many things that can happens in the Ooniverse, all the OXP stuff and the active and friendly community around this game!!

Interesting that you're loving the game so much, because that's not the tone that comes across in your other posting about wanting more eye candy...

I presume if you want "nicer" effects - you've already installed BGS, POVRAYPlanets at the very least? And if you want better explosions then Griff's Alloys and Wreckage OXP? (https://www.box.com/s/162d02b7e79b1202689c)
