Well spotted.....I didn't go that far down the page. It doesn't quite square with the bit higher up but I suppose if B&B were Navy sub-contractors (which is quite possible) we have our answer.
Thanks.

Why not ask Thargoid? Perhaps he knows...(entering conspiracy zone)

edit: it was short as conspiracies go. I didn't even finish writing this and it went by!

Oh and Smivs ,what, did you knock over the edison museum or just clean out your closet this morning? :P

My point was that if we had found the information in the Frontier manual, we would have known where it came from.

Anyway, found it:

THARGOID INVASION SHIPS
Though most of the Thargoid Space Fleet is currently engaged by the Galactic Navy in Intergalactic Space, a few of the smaller battle ships make occasional sorties into Human Space. These ships are extremely fast for their size and invariably have ECM Systems (this was originally a Thargoid invention to counter Navy missiles, subsequently copied by the Navy from captured Thargoid ships). Additionally, most Thargoid battle ships carry a few small remote- controlled ships, each equipped with a single pulse laser. It is rumored that the Galactic Navy are designing their own remote-controlled fighter, and will pay well for Thargoid ones to study.

D'oh! I did a find inside FF for "ECM" - and it didn't display that line (it was off the bottom of the page) - my bad!

Proposition.

Remove the Thargoid reference from the missile page as it serves no purpose.
Add to the ECM page the following.
The ECM was developed by Bell and Braben on riedquat 359 and is believed to have been inspired by Thargoid technology captured by the Navy, who ordered it's development.

Reading the two sections next to each other, they do seem to be more than just a bit contradictory.
I guess the narrative wold go something along the lane of the Navy observing the thing in action, and then B&B, knowing what they were looking for and that it was possible, cracked the code.

Sounds like a good idea for an oxp, at first I thought it might be a reference to the Constrictor, but that's a manned craft, would love to see Behemoths launching military drones.

So basically Captured Thargons as in the Armoury OXP, but with new models. Or the guardian drones in Aquatics?

Before this thread gets too derailed can I just ask once more if anyone has any objections to my proposed update to the Wiki regarding the ECM?

A couple of things I have noticed,

I have noticed the Renegade Viper + Grass Snake also the Scorpius have not been included in the ships section (Category:Ships OXPs) of the wiki.

Also in the oxp’s with problems you have the Kirin Sport but not the Kirin (the one with the XM, CV ect) But in the Kirin page it informs it is broken. Yet it has a Y compatibility section.

Welcome back and love that idea! Oxp would connect things and add great continuity. :)
