I quite like the idea that once in a blue moon, some stupid miner might cause a catastrophic quirium explosion to decimate an asteroid field. It'll be a rare phenomenon and one that a few lucky commanders might get to enjoy....a tale for the space-bars.
For now, it's staying as it is.

I think you have to check out just how frequently this happens (hasn't anybody before releasing the OXP? I would've expected that the OXP would be tested before release; just by sitting in the middle of an infested asteroid field and watching what happens for 20 or 30 minutes).
If the star jellies are known to the game as asteroids, it's not a question of stupidity, but of necessity. Miners are mining asteroids. Therefore, if something is not for mining, it shouldn't be known as an asteroid.
Whatever. Your OXP, your responsibility, your choice. I'm not installing it anyway, so it's not going to disturb my personal Ooniverse.

During many hours of 'non-testing', not only has this theoretical phenomena not been observed, but it became clear that it is indeed very unlikely to occur at all. Indeed it was the absence of this predicted feature that led me to start this thread in the first place, in case I'd mis-understood the mechanism whereby this spectacle could occur. Asteroids out-number Star-Jellys nine to one, so the chance of a miner 'choosing' the Star-Jelly as his target is small, and so far all Star-Jellys seen have been very distant from the Hermitage and therefore from the area where mining is carried out. Although slightly disappointing, this does make these events even more noteworthy when (if?) they do occur, and I view that as a good thing. It wouldn't be fun if it was happening regularly.

<Immersion mode> Accidents do happen. Although there has never been a confirmed case of a Miner accidentally hitting a Star-Jelly during mining, presumably because they are well aware of the danger and are suitably cautious, commanders operating in or near asteroid fields are wise to keep the potential threat in mind.
As well as being a dangerous place, Space can also surprise you with un-expected events and spectacles like this. That's what makes life interesting and worthwhile.</Immersion mode>

It's just a bit of fun. If that's not your thing, don't install it.
