I have it on good authority* that the aliens will come calling in 2012. 2020 might already be too late for this kind of weaponry...

Unfortunately backing a commercial company into a corner so that it 'concentrates the mind' usually has only one effect (depending on who's doing the corning of course). I'd cite Acorn's Risc PC vs WinTel AT Clones.
