I'm quite happy with my iron assed Cobra MkIII.

What would increase the fun for me would be to separate the control of lasers from the control of the ship, i.e. aim them while keeping the ship steady (like somebody else suggested in another thread). Should be

Alternately, there could be some form of auto-aim like you see on current fighter planes and helicopters. Just mark the target and let the auto aim take care of the rest, taking target direction and velocity into account etc.

Both are probably impossible within the OXP constraints but one can dream :)

A cargo pod scanner could be a nice feature ... more of a (possibly) OXP-able piece of equipment than a ship feature, but still. Target the pod, and you can find out what's inside before you scoop it. It would be a big help to those of us with small cargo bays, who have to be choosy about what we take on board! Combined with a big array of possible cargo descriptions it could add some colour, too.

Or you could jus scoop it, and press "d" when you don't like the pod. The dump-item always dumps the last scooped pod first. Or cycle trough your cargo with the "R" key and dump something of even less value.

And after ejecting you better destroy the pod with your lasers to at least earn 1 cr. for the trouble.

That's what I do at the moment (although I don't shoot unscooped ones, in case they've got people in them ...), but if I could ping the cans from a distance it would save a lot of faff. Plus we could have fun working out descriptions too. IIRC isn't there already an OXP that comes up with different types of cargo descriptions?

What I would like to see is ships where you can't fit all the equipment to, ie have limited space. Perhaps in a future version of Oolite each ship would have a fixed capacity of equipment space, and each bit of equipment would take up some of that space, and if you used up all the available space you would not be able to add more. Large Cargo Bay extensions should take up equipment space too.

This is a tough one because the temptation is to say I want a ship that is as fast a Fer-de-Lance with the cargo carrying capacity of an Anaconda and the maneuverability of an Asp Mk II.
Ironically, a ship that was as fast as an Asp Mk II and as maneuverable as a Fer-de-Lance...with the cargo capacity of an Anaconda would be more powerful.

The Fer-de-Lance is slower than a Boa 2, which is slower than a Mamba, which is slower than a Cobra 3, which is slower than a Sidewinder, which is slower than an Asp.
I think the stats are wrong on the Wiki, the value given for the Boa Class cruiser is for the thrust, not the speed. I believe the Viper Interceptor is one of the fastest (standard) ships in the game. 8)

Regardless, I stand corrected, but you get the general idea. :P

You're spot on with that. But to which stats in the Wiki are you refering? As far as I can see, the stats for both BCC and Interceptor are correct (0.312 and 0.520 LM respectively).

Vaztr; Maybe a magbeacon that produces a mild magnetic effect slowly pulling all the metal objects (including ships) towards it. It lasts for say 10 seconds then turns into a normal beacon. It's used to arrest and collect spilled cargo around it.
That sounds perfectly scriptable. Maybe I'll give it a try.

That magnetic beacon idea sounds fun. And it could be used not only for cargo collection but also to gain a tactical advantage in a fight, or to line ships up for deploying some weapon of mass destruction upon them (or for blocking a docking bay, or pulling a ship nearer to a missile fired at it or to an escort ship or drone).

Like one used in Frontier, right? Frontier's ships are modular, yop can even install 100 shield generators on a single hull.

the magnetic idea is good for up to and including TCs i'd say : espectially useful for blatting something like a pirate rock when you end up w/ 2 billion metal shards clogging the scanner. absolutely no way should it be strong enought o affect a ship, much less one that has engines.

OOO.. Wish list

I don't need much, Have a caddy OMG. Tweaked handling, Decreased pitch, increased roll. No yaw control.

Would love a proper telescopic sight for military laser; One where the actual image of the poor sorry bad guy does get bigger for better aiming at distance. Would be real great going against multi lasered baddies.

Would love to be able to choose which pylon my weapons go on when buying.

Isn't that implemented already? I seem to recall something like that.

Not exactly (see the other place where the same question is posed, to save having everything in stereo).
