Wow, you guys are great! I sure didn't expect such a quick response and from so many. Yes, I do need to get the Military laser mounted on the front of my puny ship and keep the beem laser aft. I love this game and am glad I finally found it again.

Chalk up one more vote for the MILHUD. In addition to the sniping accuracy, I love the larger than standard-issue scanner...
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
