Didn't think you could use ECM's when below 50% of your last bar, this from an older version?
To be honest, I don't recall.. maybe it was close to 50% and I also took a laser hit at the same time...

Good to see I'm not the only person given to prematurely removing myself from the gene pool around here.:D

Just last night I launched from a rock hermit, engaged injectors to get out of scanner range and press space commander.

Oh yes, hermits have beacons too.

Playing Oolite, late at night, with the lights off and my headphones on. Lovely glow from my monitor and the lights on my keyboard, mouse and joystick. Yeah, I'm in a spaceship baby!

My Anaconda is nearing the station when I come under attack. No worries, only a couple of ships , nothing threatening, nothing I can't handle.

I absent mindedly start to go through my "crush the pirates" protocols when my missus pops into the room to impart some sort of information that may be relevant. I don't know, I can't hear her with my headphones on. As I don't want to raise my status with my other half from "clean" to "offender" I remove the headphones so I can hear her, while still absentmindedly playing the game rather than pause it.

Here's the deal.

You can't hear the missile warning with your headphones off! If you can't hear the missile warning and are not looking at the screen, you tend to forget to activate your ECM.

By the time I'd twigged that my ships' shields were down and there were more missiles on the way. Clearly the pirate captain of the Imp Courier was aggrieved at what I'd done to his engine nacelles.

My finger lurched towards the "E" key just a few seconds too late.

Press Space Commander.

Really? Do they? With which OXP? I have never ever seen a Hermit with a beacon or buoy. They live in asteroid fields, however. And sometimes an asteroid may be located just in the flight path from the docking bay...

Reference Rock Hermit beacons:

A quick check through my addons folder suggests the Rock Hermit locator oxp is probably responsible for this. I think I got it from the wiki. I'll check later but I'm really supposed to be working at the moment.

Ah, yes. That is highly likely.

Wasn't aware that the Rock Hermit Locator actually adds beacons. Personally I don't have it installed.

It does (something I know as I had fun when trying to include it in Repair Bots and make it do so appropriately).

A Darwin gets awarded to a particularly spacemad Iguana pilot.

No surprise that he tried to bumrush me, or lit the injectors when I drilled him with my mil' laser.
After a bit of playing a game of 'dodge the angry Caddy', the guy pulled a high gee loop, then flew straight into the plasma storm coming off my port broadside batteries, and rammed me. My shields absorbed the hit which sent my Caddy sliding sideways with no damage. The Iggy wasn't so lucky: He got a point-blank blasting from my broadside flak guns and side laser for his dumb stunt.

That seems to happen a lot to Caddy pilot. Ships crash into them more often.

Actually, no. A captain who has mastered the strengths of a Caddy can usually deter a kamikaze ramming. Most would-be kamikazes wuss out after taking a beating from those flak batteries and precision lasers.
That Iggy pilot had a set of brass kajones installed with his iron ass.

Not life ending per se, but

unlike many other applications, you can't switch from Full Screen to Window by using the ESC key.

:-/
sounds more to me like he'd had his brain(s?) removed!

I was testing Thargoid's Bombs OXP the other day.

Was chasing a Python and used a Stun bomb. The Python stopped dead in space, and I crashed right into it. Press space, commander!

LOL

For me, winners of Darwin awards are pirates who use bounty misslies (or how the hell are they called...those that, when EMPed, lock onto criminal targets). So far, already three pirates in my game suicided this way.

Ah yes, the military missile. The bounty hunter's friend, and a guaranteed Darwin for pirates who're dumb enough to load 'em.
