Oh...and I doubt that thargoids would send them out without defenses. Indeed, I would expect that R&D would be continued aboard these ships - and maybe they did find some new technologies which go beyond our understanding? Maybe they even do develop witchspace technology, raid a planet and leave into interstellar space again instead of trying to colonize an already colonized world. Further fun could be that the Thargs do take over a planet, thus resulting in the first thargoid colony available on current charts
Another thing that might happen would be that these Thargoids become more peaceful, like the Oresratians...
Screet
I would like a 'dynamic' Thargoid Campaign. They first pop up on the edge of univers. Then the assimilate systems like hell. The Navy tries to prevent that
The idea of a Thargoid Gen Ship is derived from the idea that humans have them also. And the instinct of a Tharigoid is: 'destroy'. It should indeed be super big and strong. It's a new threat. I smell an OXP.
tch, i made a post this morn and it seems to have vanished :-/
anyways : what about is the Thargoids came to a system and took over a Coriolis, turning it into a hive? they could then spread out, making smaller "satellite" hives, and link them perhaps w/ umbilical-like tunnels. they could grow in size, threatening an entire planet if not stopped in time.
another thought - these bugs obviously have a far more advanced grasp of WS travel, if they can pull ships out and hover about in it quite happily - what about if they could calculate the most-used WS route, and built a hive in the way? then every trip from xxx to yyy would bump you out right in the middle of a hive - bit like pizza delivery to the door for the Thargs! could have an oxp when you have to circle around to a Navy staging post, dock in a behemoth and jump into WS to destroy the hive and re-open the route.

Your game scenario is exactly the problem with the idea, IMHO. The Bugs are obviously smart. They choose battlegrounds that favor them, but never within THEIR sensitive areas. They expose none of their logistical support operations while still picking when and where to engage. (Speaking of default behaviors - Not scripted OXP storylines.)
All the military would need to do is have a remote pilot drone open a worm hole, knowing it will get ripped out at the Hive - Then throw a QMine into the hole. Instant Win, No risk.
Also, and this is just my theory - I've always interpretted the Thargs as being severely outnumbered by GalCOP / Navy. That is why they engage in a guerrilla-style campaign and employ terror / ambush tactics. If they had the resources for a major offensive, they wouldn't be ripping individual traders out of witchspace and ambushing them with minimal numbers.
Just some food for thought....

Thargoids may have made single ship incursions/attacks in known systems and dragged ships from witchspace in classic Elite/Oolite. But with Thargoid Threats OXP installed, they're more formidable and, with Galactic Navy OXP installed, they also engage the Galactic Navy with equal or greater numbers.
Additionally, Drews writings bring Thargoid Hive ships into the Ooniverse.
Depending upon the OXP's a player installs, the Thargoids vary from being a threat to lightly armed traders to being a threat to space stations and fleet task forces.
With the Missile OXP's introducing their destructive potential, I think it is only a matter of time before the Thargoids modify their fighter drones to perform in roles similar to the OXP missiles.
Since little is known about Thargoids, including their logistical support requirements, I wonder if any generation ships they may or may not have had would have survived the ravages of time or have evolved/mutated to develop capabilities allowing them to remain viable platforms of Thargoid power by current standards?

On my system they already do. Currently in WIP, but soon (hopefully) to be available to all of you humans Although I also hear that our Second Wave Commanders already make use of such field-modifications at times too.

would a q mine do the job? i thought someone said you could enter a hive on Torus, it was that big.
anyways, i guess it might not be too long before those clever bugs invent a propulsion system that wouldn't be affected by Q bombs.

Again, we clever bugs already have such a thing in WIP

The
only Thargoid Hive yet in existence is immune to Q bombs. You have to fry its core with your lasers. Has something to do with
energy fluctuations and
reverse polarities, y'know da stuff!
