Basic Gameplay
-------------------
Strict play Y/N: No
Shaders: Y/N Yes

Advanced Gameplay (missions)
--------------------------------------

Add on missions Y/N: Yes, compliance with the accepted backstory (timeline, Wiki, etc.) welcomed.
Add on career choices (Random Hits, UPS, Taxi etc..) Y/N: Yes, Random Hits only

Flavor
--------
System modifications like Dictatorships/Commies/Anarchies/Feudals/Navy/FTZ Y/N: Yes, except Galactic Navy, which IMO doesn't comply with the backstory.
Systemobjects like Con stores/Fuel stations/Rock Hermits/ Other main stations Y/N: Yes, a few selected ones. (BTW: Rock Hermits don't belong here, they're core game; pirate traps would belong here.)

Scenery
---------
Sysredux, Famous Planets Y/N: Yes, Sysredux only, no additional planets, only maximal one moon

I don't know whether it's in the above category or another category of its own:

Scenery changing
Farsun, Solar system Y/N: No.

Equipment
Extra functionality Y/N: Yes, some
Extra weapons balanced Y/N: Yes, some
Extra weapons unbalanced (superweapons etc) Y/N: No
Extra weapons experimental Y/N: For playtesting purposes only

Huds
Altered huds: Y/N: Yes

Ships

Basic ships (do you want to keep them) Y/N: Yes
Advanced models of basic ships (x-ships) Y/N: No
Griffs' models (eyecandy ships so system dependant): Y/N: No
Neolite ships Y/N: No
Big cruisers (non-battle transports> Transports, Orisis, Aurora, Anaconda spaceways, Strelka liners) Y/N: Yes, if they behave (like: not try to dock).
Utility ships (GRS etc) Y/N/: Yes
Battle Cruisers: Y/N: Yes, Behemoths and Leviathans
Super player ships: Y/N: Yes (flying an IC, which admittedly is on the super side)
Ships with turrets: Y/N: No (I suppose we are talking player turrets here)

oh, we are missing one category here:
Player ships too big to dock Y/N: Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Right after introducing these hell itself opens!

Other Universe ships (Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5 etc): Y/N: No
Other Objects (space Monsters etc): Y/N/: No

Meta OXP's(Y/N): If it contains anything to which I answered "No" above: NO, of course not!

Sound packages Y/N/: No

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:

I like the Ooniverse to have much variation and I like expansion. However things have to be balanced and should not break the gameplay. And they should make some basic sense.

So far I have stuck around Galaxy 1, so my response may be limited to that.
I have two ships. One 'honest' one, which follows rules and OXP and one 'experiemental' one, where I hack the save file and give myself tons of money so I can try out ships and equipment that I wouldn't otherwise be able to try.

Basic Gameplay
-------------------
Strict play Y/N: No
Shaders: Y/N Yes

Advanced Gameplay (missions)
--------------------------------------

Add on missions Y/N: Yes, not many yet. Long way Around. Passengers are like mini-missions to me.

Add on career choices (Random Hits, UPS, Taxi etc..) Y/N: Yes, just got UPS

Flavor:
--------
System modifications like Dictatorships/Commies/Anarchies/Feudals/Navy/FTZ Y/N: Yes I love Commies. It's a fun OXP. For small ships, the gulags are great places for shopping
Systemobjects like Con stores/Fuel stations/Rock Hermits/ Other main stations Y/N:Yes

Scenery
Sysredux, Famous Planets Y/N: one day but not right now.

Equipment
Extra functionality Y/N: Yes
Extra weapons balanced Y/N: yes
Extra weapons unbalanced (superweapons etc) Y/N: no
Extra weapons experimental Y/N: ???

Huds
Altered huds: Y/N: no none that I found that much more functional

Ships
Havn't played around with extra ships, but probably will eventually.
Basic ships (do you want to keep them) Y/N: Yes
Advanced models of basic ships (x-ships) Y/N:
Griffs' models (eyecandy ships so system dependant): Y/N:
Neolite ships * Y/N:
Big cruisers (non-battle transports> Transports, Orisis, Aurora, Anaconda spaceways, Strelka liners) Y/N:
Utility ships (GRS etc) Y/N/:
Battle Cruisers: Y/N:
Super player ships: Y/N:
Ships with turrets: Y/N:

Other Universe ships (Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5 etc): Y/N: not yet, but thinks it's cute and a testament to the playfulness and variability and is a strength of open source
Other Objects (space Monsters etc): Y/N/: Y (only if a good story is made up how they come into the Ooniverse)

Meta OXP's (Y/N): huh???

Sound packages Y/N/: Yes, at some point. especially shield and energy low warnings to remind me to eject before it's too late.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love the OXPs and the variety they provide. I have Dictators, Commies, and FTZ. I would install Anarchies, but I don't want the criminal system changed and I rarely stay in those worlds anyways.

Conclusion:

I like the variety OXPs can offer me, but I guess I don't want any OXP to change the gameplay too much from the original. But I'm always ready to try some new OXP and see if it fits my Ooniverse.

Thanks for all the replies. We see that there are a lot of different kind of players. No one seems to play in strict mode though. Many people have extra flavour installed.

I have the following OXP's installed on Oolite version 1.72.2

behemoth 2.5.1.oxp
BehemothSpacewar 1.2.1.oxp
Freaky Thargoids 3.1.oxp
FuelCollectorV0.06.oxp
Galactic_Navy 5.2.2.oxp
Rock_Hermit_Locator1.3.1.oxp
Target Autolock 1.00.oxp
Target Reticle 1.1.oxp
Thargorn_Threat 1.3.1.oxp

Game Options
Play in Full Screen (mode 1280 x 1024)

Wireframe Graphics: Off

Advanced models of basic ships (x-ships) Y/N: Yes
Griffs' models (eyecandy ships so system dependant): Y/N: Yes (sometimes)
Neolite ships * Y/N: No
Big cruisers Y/N: No
Utility ships (GRS etc) Y/N/: No
Battle Cruisers: Y/N: No
Super player ships: Y/N: 1 or 2
Ships with turrets: Y/N: No

Other Universe ships : Y/N: No ..however I do maintain a "WeaponsTestPlatform" (at Ceesxe) which is an earlyish saved game I use to test out weapon OXP's to see 1}how they work 2}if I really want them; this vessel is currently a B-wing (because I think it looks like a weapons test platform) (it is slightly edited)
Other Objects: Y/N/: No

Meta OXP's (Y/N): Yes (sometimes)

Additionally there is a "used ship outlet" at Lave consisting of numerous saved games, one saved game for each of the ship OXP's I've downloaded. I purchase one of the ships wherever it becomes available, fully equip it and fly it to Lave. This facility is run by a crook whose gigantic credit balance results from saving the game which arose when some action (I forget what..) generated a huge credit balance for the commander upon starting a new game, using a recent version of Oolite. I never actually fly this AllStars vessel - it has 0 kills - but it is there, saved at Lave anyway. The fraudster is called Honest Rqjykcl. Although of indeterminate colour, he is very handsome and has many tentacles.

The Ooniverse of El Viejo, Commander, “Clear Air Turbulence”:

I play in Strict Mode occasionly.
I use full shaders.

I use these OXPs: SysRedux; Griff’s Shipset; Fighter HUD; Target Reticle; Target Autolock.

That’s about it, really. I keep it very basic, apart from a little eye-candy.
I’d happily have SysRedux and Griff’s Shipset as defaults.
(It’s how I would have liked Elite to look, all those years ago).
The Basic ships are there in Strict Mode (and always should be), if I want them.

No flavours, no super ships, no super weapons, no meta-OXPs or whatever. No turrets.
Definitely no ships or stations from other universes. Definitely no monsters.

As regards add-on missions/career choices, Random Hits is the only one that appeals.
(I’m a Hunter/Explorer anyway, so maybe I’ll try it in a ship year or two).
Deep Space Pirates will be added soon.

I’m perfectly content in my standard Cobra Mk III (Griff’s scuffed version, of course).

No soundsets, I prefer my own music.
(Pink Floyd are particularly atmospheric when cruising the Ooniverse).

Full screen mode (1280x1024).
I prefer a joystick to keys, but can use either.

Need I say more?

(Apart from heartfelt thanks to the devs and coders who make it possible).

My attractive used spaceship salesthing exists only in my head. Is there a monsters OXP? A very occasional deep space inhabitant might be interesting.

Extra Functionality:(?) I do have Planetfall installed, so my answer might be Yes here..
Commander McLane wrote:

Yes, originally annoying, but can these be fitted with Planet Landing Capability?

edit: well yes they can, but I've just tried landing on a few moons & planets in a large ship and it seems as though it will land but explodes at launch.

p.s. I like MildAudio oxp, but the current version seems different from an earlier download. Has it been updated? The witchspace sound might be different in this version - but it could equally be my addled memory misremembering..

Which version of PF are you running?

We've had some general problems with launch explosions, which I think we've just about got fixed now in the current version. It may be that it is a large-ship issue, but if you're not on a fully up to date version you may be seeing the general bug.

I'd like to squash that bug once and for all, so I'm interested to know if this is still a manifestation of it even with the latest version.

No in-game music, I listen to existing collection. Pink Floyd, Orbital, and Fluke seem to come around more often than most other things when playing...

Yeah! Orbital and Fluke I have also in my collection. Though I mostly listen to digitallyimported.com ambient stream while playing. The creepy ambient fits the Ooniverse well.
