Depends on where you want to see the ships in game.

If you want to see 'em spinning at game start, you need demoships.plist that mentions your ships in the Config folder.

If you want to have the ship(s) appear as pirates, traders etc., populated by the game, your ship needs to have those roles declared in shipdata.plist.

If you want to just check out how the ship looks like and/or acts in game, you cang assign it a unique role in shipdata.plist and then add a script to make the ship (a ship with that unique role) appear (for instance every time you launch from station or perform a witchspace jump), check the Wiki for examples.

And if you want to be able to buy & fly one, the shipdata.plist needs *yourship*-player -entry where the role is set as player and you need shipyard.plist with *yourship*-player -entry in it too.

Folder ..\oolite.app\Resources is your friend here, as is the Wiki and OXPs.
