weapon energy 50, reload time 2.5
mil laser has energy 23, but reload time .1
beam laser has energy 15 and same reload as mil laser.
Hope noone beats me for writing this
At least it's open visible in the code...

Excellent info! Do you know if these parameters were derived from the classic? I don't want to mess with the code if these are comparable.
Perhaps some of the the ships have evolved to the point of making long cycle times obsolete.
Having said that, a Python is definitely much harder to kill (almost impossible in fact) with a mining laser in Oolite compared to the Speccy 128K version of Elite. I guess it's down to how far you want to take the "inspired by"

Sorry, I've no idea about that. However, I've seen different values for these toys when they are used by NPCs

Had a quick play with Elite TNK last night to remind myself. As I remembered, same as the classic versions re. mining lasers.
Anyway, got the source code and built a version with a mining laser that seems about par with what I'm used to. Oh the joys of open source
Tempting to spec into super laser territory, but that would just spoil the fun.
Now off for a major bit of Oolite lovin'. It is very cool

Remember that the NPC ships have their own values...it might be fair to increase their mining laser power as well

Definitely. Otherwise you ruin the game
The trouble is there are so many custom ships out there now and the temptation by their creators to specify high energy factors and military lasers makes the environment much more dangerous than the classics.

Heheheh.. this is why it pays to be careful about what OXPs you install before you have an Iron Ass..

And don't forget that some NPC ships can actually be on your side, at least if you don't shoot them.
