Shouldn't these worlds come under the juristiction of those sectors that are best placed to get to them? Mainly those immediately below them in the map stack?

Captain H, check out the credits on map 1.

The problem with that is that travel between galaxies requires a galactic hyperdrive, which is one use only. This is a one shot, expensive, item. Also, in order to return to your original galaxy, you have to go through all seven other galaxies, for a total of 40000 credits all the way around.

One last thing. There's no way to send a message to the galaxy before without going all the way around. So it would just not be practical to have SecComs in previous galaxies responsible for isolate worlds.

So Many Maps

There are so many wonderful maps that people have put together. These will be useful for many I'm sure, one of which is me. :)

I remember a discussion somewhere about using some kind of flash web page thing for these. I think it would be a good idea, especially for those of us who have multiple monitors  where somehow we could push <F6> and then maybe 1, 2, etc to show different galactic maps on it.

Has anyone thought about something like this? Is it possible to do with OXP scripting? If so, and no one is working on it, I might put my programming skills to use for the community.

The vector maps are all well, vector based graphics funnily enough. They are ready for flash importing. I can let you have access to the illistrator files if you like.

As long as you credit where credit is due (as I have done) then we're all cool. :)

It is a big job however. There's wiring up search engine for names, alternative oxp tick boxes, the mouse over descriptions and that's just for openers. It's a lot of work and anyone going into it has to do so with their eyes open and be ready to make a DETAILED readme file if they find themselves unable to continue.

I can help some with extracting the information but it's still a good chunk of time. Still bragging rights on newgrounds can't be bad. :)

I doubt you'll be able to "bolt on" a flash app to an oxp. But a slick internet navigator second window might be a suitable alternative. You just wont be able to play oolite com-f that's all.

I could give it a try

I've never done anything with Illustrator files before but I'm willing to figure it out. Besides, I like learning new things.

Credit? You have to be kidding. With my credit I can't get a library card!!!

Oh, you mean give credit to people who did the maps themselves?!? I wouldn't have it any other way. I prefer collaboration always. I'm a non-competitive person. It's just that I think I could help out in some small way.

Whatever you'd like to send my way, please feel free. I'll see what I can do. Besides, I was laid off two weeks ago and I have lots of time! No money but lots of time! :-D

righty ho I'll see what I can slap up on my website for you to review.

How do you usually work with flash? As in, when your importing graphics which formats do you use?

Galaxies 7 and 8 are done. I just need to make the lists now.

Randy, do you mind keeping me posted if you do decide to do a Flash map? I don't anything about working with Flash, but it would be interesting to see what you do.

If anyone wants to take my maps and improve them, I freely give my permission to do so. However, if you want to make to changes to them, contact me so that I can update the lists appropriately.

World 162.Oresrati is an isolated world and as such does not fall under the direct protection of any SecCom sector. It was settled by an isolationist population that wanted as little contact with GalCop as possible. All attempts to convince the settlers to move have met with failure. However, the Galactic Navy does maintain a small force here to protect the population from Thargoid attacks.

I have no idea. I've never done it before. But it will be a good learning experience for me. I could add it to my list of skills. For me, learning works best by delving into some project and learning as I go.

It'll be interesting.

I'll come up with something. I'm already on the computer looking up information. I have a lot of tools for programming, graphics, modeling, music, and of course programming languages plus more experience in programming than the number of Chins in a Chinese telephone book.

This will be a fun project for me and useful for everyone I think.

This sounds oddly familiar. Gee, I wonder who I could be reminded of.

Well, good luck.

Welcome back Matt!

If we're still doing this - could I suggest "The Hummingbird Sector" for Sector 5 in Gal. Chart 8 centred on system 156?

If we're into (sector) cloud-spotting then we can have the zone around #184 as the crane (or perhaps the victory sector, if you're into Churchill) and #98 as the Howitzer too ;) Not to mention #116 looking like a hen and #212 a dog...

Not as catchy as DH's, but just thought I'd mention them too.
