A sophisticated electro-optical device that is powered by a lithium battery which needs recharging on a regular basis?

With the funds and technology available to the characters, I suggest the following.

1) The replacement eye is an implant.
2) The implant is able to receive power from bio-electricty generated from within the host.
3) If the implant cannot garner enough power this way, then it is designed with a swappable eyeball module (while the bio-interface eye-socket remains within the host). The owner can quickly pop out a module with a low battery and replace it with a freshly charged module. The spent module can be placed in a device that will clean and recharge it for future use. I suggest the character own at least three units. One in use, one being recharged and the other kept as a spare.
4) The eyeball implant module can also record images, video and other information (i.e. reconnaisance data) which may be downloaded or transmitted wirelessly to a storage unit later.

Hehe...reminds me of B5 and my favorite Narn after he discovered the good points about his replacement eye ;)

Actually on thinking about it maybe this one is a little more apt.

Brains.

"The poor sucker must've scrawled his death throes by using a combination of his own blood and his own intestines."
"Who would do that?"
"Someone who badly needed a pen."
"What I don't understand is why he went through the trouble of having to use his kidney as a full-stop."
"I don't think he meant to do that. Maybe it just plopped out."
