Oolite Bulletins

I'm using the release candidate of Windows 7 64 bit on my desktop and 32 bit on my laptop and can confirm that Oolite appears to run fine on both, so long as latest graphics drivers are installed (Catalyst).

I'll be downloading the RTM version from MSDN as soon as its available which I think is Aug 6th!

Well, i've got my 64-bit Windows RC up and running on my home pc, i must say i'm really pleased with it, it does seem to have a lot more pep than Vista, and it looks like proper folder view settings again just like how they were in XP! woo!

Oolite is running really great, no errors, shaders and stuff working fine - it's quicker than it is running under XP but that may be because the pc has just been set up and is free of clutter and stuffed full of latest driver version goodness!

Monkeyboy was responsible for turning vista into a train wreck prior to official release. Vista turned out not worth pirating, much less paying for. Remember that.

7 is not released yet, and I'm thinking that, like vista before it, they'll reduce it to rubbish with a draconian DRM infection and a couple of tons worth of useless bloat services just before pressing it to plastic.

Frankly I'd be surprised if it wasn't f***ed on release day. Even if it's not garbage, it's still far too overpriced, and in this recession they're asking way too much for way too little.

Little to no argument from me about Ballmer. Never been a real fan of the guy.

As for Vista being a trainwreck, that was more the domain of the project manager - he had too many depts working on interdependent and often redundant systems. This caused confusion, wasted efforts, reinvention of the wheel, and a lot of other stuff. Still, I don't believe it to be half as bad as you project, and I've used it daily for 2 years and the x64 version at that.

7 is not released yet, but it is gold/RTM'd. That means, other than the screwing the OEM's will give it, there's no last-minute anything going in that isn't already there. DRM sucks, but hey, it's also international law/treaties at play in that crap. So far, the DRM in Windows hasn't had a real impact on me... Not nearly as much as is introduced by 3rd parties (EA, Sony, etc). As for the services, again - If it's not there now, it's not going to be, unless the OEM's cram it in, and MS can't do anything about that. Netscape et all saw to that.

For pricing, hey... I got Vista Ultimate for $45 USD. I ain't arguing.
