I inserted the cobra redux model into Google Earth, to get an idea of scale, it's landed at the edge of Regent's Park, London.
How do I link to the jpg?

KMZ for GE if you want to see it in place:

It doesn't look out of place!

In fact Regent's Park doesn't look too dissimilar in this shot to the Spaceport that the Eagle II lands at in the Intro to Frontier!

No wonder that some spacers never goes planet side, you are flying around with your castle so to speak...

I'm not sure that would be very popular place to land..."excuse me sir, have you got a permit to park there?" ... ..."No sir, if you care to look at the park regulations..."

But very impressive, the really is a big SOB.

Yes, in my first post attempt (when the board wouldn't take my picture, so the post was not made) I had a great disposition on how this was clearly a Young Jameson, as he had managed to find a Time Distortion Device, but no Cloaking Device or "Sombody-Else's Problem Field" Generator. Either of which would have helped to avoid freaking out the primitives.

Hmm, parks are tricky things, I would suggest slapping the ship next to a land mark. London eye? Houses of parliament?

I did once have this perspective idea, that I dismissed due to difficulty. To get an accurate distance shot of the telecom tower and past in a cobby tethered to the top. A flight of fancy.

This is why I've not pasted it in. It's actually on the ground in a GoogleEarth KMZ, ground size measured using GE's measuring tool.

Convert DAT to OBJ
Import into Wings3D
Export as 3DS
Import into Sketchup
Position on imported GE scene with ground measure in place for reference.
Export to GE
Save screenshot and export KMZ for those wanting a Flyaround.

My problem near known landmarks is there's nowhere close by to land, what with not wanting to seem to be sitting on top of buildings.

The London Eye is 135meters tall, and has a diameter of 122meters for example, but when measured in GE it seems to have a larger diameter (139) due to perspective.

I wonder if there's any squares with enough space to land, will check Red Square and Tienanmen.

Suggestions?

Also I wouldn't mind enough space for a larger "fly-in", I'd like at least an Adder and Anaconda in shot.

I think I've found the perfect Landing Zone.

It's a small, not very busy place called London Heathrow, my fellow spacer's might not have heard of it due to being so "off the beaten track". Landing shouldn't be a problem, providing I can avoid the native's atmospheric vehicles.

Found a -just- suitable parking place at the London Eye - Jubilee Park.

The cobby3 really is huge isn't it!

When you think how little cargo it can carry for its size compared to a 38-ton truck!

Fab piccies!

At last, a good scale image of the Cobra Mk. III. Now, if only we could get a few more with other ships.

As far as cargo to size ratio goes, don't forget that the Cobra needs life support, weapons, generators, and space for all those wonderful toys you can add on to it.

It might well be better to do a comparison with a space shuttle, in terms of cargo hauling capability etc.

Perhaps somebody could add a scaled shuttle image to the Eye+CMk3 image?
