The idea of playing for fun and dogfighting is a valid point.

The idea of using Q-Bombs & Energy Bombs is also valid. There is a cost for their use though.

I admit I was thinking from a point of view where the idea is to avoid costly/risky combat encounters through deterrence and/or win combat engagements decisively on preferable terms. Perhaps it could be described as a "military" and/or "professional" perspective.

Still, it's a game we play for fun. To each their own. 8)

Looking into this the nature of turrets appears to fit most readily with thargoid.ai

At least at the test stage I'm going to try and cut out the "head for planet" bollocks and see if I can create a turret ai that attacks everything. Mainly because it's easy to test.

From there I can craft a better response.

At least it should give the rest of us a good laugh when you launch and find yourself trying to blow up the station you just left, or the buoy in front of it.

But it does beg the question does the AI actually control the turret? As I see from the (few) ships in my install with turrets they're all set as dumb or null AI. So presumably the AI of the ship they are sub-ents of is superceding that, and of course player ships don't have AIs.

A theory I'm currently testing. It would appear however that no ammount of agressive AI programming will get a player turret to go off and do it's own thing. I could of course just be falling into an AI hole.
