It seems to me that missile warheads have a short distance blast radius that decreases in strengh the further away you are from the detonation.

So it's better to take the hit in the rear (flying out of the blast zone) than it is to be hit in the front (flying into the blast zone).

I might be wrong, but I think the speed you hit a missile does make a difference. A Hard Head in the face at 0.5 LM does a lot more damage than taking a hit up the aft!
