Hang on, you get money for delivering scooped escape pods to the station? I thought you'd get in trouble for dealing in contraband (they are listed in your inventory under "slaves" after all...)

yeah, it automatically removes them when you dock.

speaking of which, what do people do with scooped cargo of a contraband nature, when you don't want to sell it and maintain a clean record? how do you get rid of it? wish there was a way to "turn evidence over to the police"... might be another way to improve your rating, but probably making a bad name for yourself out amongst the bandits.

You have to sell scooped contraband before relaunching otherwise it will affect your clean status.

oh! so in other words, if you scoop contraband, go dock and then you can sell it with impunity?

There's no penalties for selling scooped contraband

What? All this time I've been selectively ejecting scooped contraband to avoid run-ins with the police, and I could get away with selling the stuff?

I seem to remember something in the original (BBC) Elite manual which said that systems turn a blind eye to purchasing illegals but don't tolerate selling it, which might be why I haven't tried that...

Ejecting cargo is somewhat difficult too... usually it just crashes straight into me, I guess it isn't being launched with the right velocity or it is too close to my spacecraft when it is generated (Linux, v1.65)...

my ejected cargo appears right above me and at my same velocity. so i usually slowed down and blew it up so not to confuse it with other cargo. guess i won't be doing that anymore!

would be nice if oolite tracked that, and popped up a message from the police thanking you for turning in evidence and all. ^^

When you eject cargo it will travel at the same velocity that you are so if you slow down it'll stuff itself up yer tailpipe!

Thing is, when I go at constant velocity it keeps smashing into me. Doesn't take out the shields though, but it puts up a notice informing me how many credits I have.

Hmmm. you must be fueling up with kangaroo juice

It's not a problem I've heard of before, praps others could shed some light on it.

This is probably because the pod was spawned in close proximity to the ship and usually spins, so it makes contact with your ship, gets damaged and destroyed, while not affecting your shields since it's own energy levels are so low. Try ramming a fuel pod from A_H's Cargo Pods Teaser.

Also the display of your credits is explained easily, as destroying floating cargo containers earns you 0.1 credits. That's the bounty GalCop pays to all you vacuum cleaners! You are just informed about that.

I don't give a damn about my legal record anymore. I used to stay fugitive all the time. "Men will suffer, men will fight, even die for what is right even though they know they're only passing through ..."

:)

The price is that you have no friends outside in the cold outerrim.
