Pelican for the tanker? (I had to think of one scooping a beak full of water&fish)

As for the HW interceptor.
The 'good guys' interceptor is fairly generic type that has been done many times. Unless you directly copy/pasted the wireframe and textures the design is ... generic.
The hiigaran interceptors were clearly inspired by Criss Foss.
The... Vaygr (?) ships I can't really recall very well. Except I liked the way their offcenteredness worked out without looking like they were going sideways.

That could work - though it doesn't really have a long neck like a pelican.

So was the Adder apparently...;)
Image

Birds are generally lightweight by 'design' hence not very reminiscent of large lumering cows of the spacelanes.

I've run across a prob - you know that in aegidian's 'how to texture stuff you numpty' tutorial that he's got on the Oolite frontpage, he tells you to export the textures as a .png? Well, if I export mine, they come out as .bmp. Is this a problem?

Man, I need to remember how to texture again..!

[EDIT] The bird thing for the tanker might work, since it's not too lumbering, at least the design is such that it's not supposed to be!

In win-wings right?

No problem...as long as you can still save them as .png in your grafics editor.

Just open your exported obj/mtl and change the extensions on the texturefile references.
Copy both and the png-textures into a seperate directory and convert with the obj2dat utility.

It's wings for mac.

I tried exporting it as a bmp, then editing it and saving it as png, but wings didn't detect it and my model came up untextured.

hmm...
strange...as i recall wings has no problem 'reading' png only it will export it as bmp or jpg.
(you can select the filetype to export to by the way)

just work/edit with the bmp, then when finished,
convert to png and rename the references in the files.

I hate to appear stupid, but I cannot for the life of me work out how choose what filetype I export as. When I hit 'make external' then I get a savebox where I type in the name, which doesn't specify an extension. If I type .png, it refused to save, telling me that I have to put bmp instead, or I can choose to use both.

Hrmph.

one sec while I start up wings for reference...

1-select your exportable object(s).
2-open the 'files-tab'
3-Open the export (selected)
You will see a list of supported export formats.
To the right of each option, there is a box.
4-Clicking this box opens the 'wavefront export options' menu.
5-At the bottom of this page there should be a 'default texture filetype' selector.
6-Select PNG (or BMP and follow the instructions in the former post as workaround)

ps this would probably need the 'advanced menus' option enabled.
pps This is all as win-wings as a reference.
ppps Previous versions of win-wings did not support png, but current version does. I suggest you revisit the site and see whether there is a newer version available.

Yes, most people do... :D
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Cheers Arexack. I'll try that tomorrow - gave it a quick whirl just now, it all went fine until I opened the png and it was about the size of a postage stamp.

I'll look at it again after my damned exam. Wish me luck!

It's maths. First year Uni. I should be asleep, but I can't drift off.

Btw, is Murgh still kicking about? His last post was a while back, and the post before that was even longer ago!

He's tugging along as a roady last time I exchanged text with him he was in German cybercafe.
Haven't heard from him for a while now, even though I have made him aware there is a new captain at the helm..... and very capable neo-oxpers.

Roadie? For whom?

From what I've read I'd assume that the new captain is Ahruman?

God, I've missed a lot... This is what happens with RL gets in the way.

Down with RL!
