Color Graphics Adapter. It gave you crummy definition and 16 colours palette - but from those, you had to choose which four of them you were actually using... Some veeeeeery old ATMs still use them.

It came between the monochrome Hercules (think of the IBM logo, the letters made of horizontal lines and remember the green screens on movies from the '70s and '80s) and EGA (Enhanced Graphics Adapter, with much better definition and 256 colours) video boards.

Yeah! Thus spake a dinossaur...
haha, that was the hardware windows' 'paint' was optimised for (and never changed since).

My first PC had SVGA (VESA!), but still I had to contend with black horizontal bars interlaced on SimCity2000...By that time it was getting a bit ancient though. ;)

Damn you young whippersnappers (except TGHC)! I remember gaming when if you wanted graphics you had to draw them yourself!

Toothpaste? Hah! Luxury! We had to brush our teeth with rat tails and grit!

Oh, incidentally, that screenshot is ace. You know, the one at the start of this thread.

Once I get a working copy of Oolite installed again I must download that OXP.

Senility.

It gets to us all in the end.

As does senility.

Among other things.

Where am I?

-What happened in the year I was born?

-Please Sir, I cannot tell a lie... It was the BATTLE OF AGIN'-COURT.

If you can see one pun, you're a brainless newbie.
Two jokes, and you know your history.
But this is in fact a triple pun!... Are you old enough to ID from where the quote came from?

As my father was with the group at IBM who developed the PC, we had some pre-PC computers floating around our house. Does anyone remember 7" floppies, no hard drive, and green screens?

7" floppies? You obviously never had to sort a box of mixed punched cards...
Fortunately their numbers were written with a pen, or else I'd never make it.

My high school computer lab was 3 Dec Terminal 100s and one Olivetti dasiywheel terminal. You wanted that one because you could save your program on punch-paper-tape. Saved the original "Star Trek" game that way.

So, we're basically a bunch of anachronisms.
I think I'll just go cry in that corner over there...

*EDIT*: Maybe this thread, from this post down, should be moved to Outworld - under the title of "Old Farts"

Colour graphics - pah! They were a luxury in my day. I had no colour during my early Elite playing days (or the full ship set, or the suns or anything else really).

Am not an 'old fart' though - I've just turned 30. Hang on...
