Suggestion from The Dark Wheel

In the original novel, the heroes docked at a cargo ship that was doubling up as a hidden space station sans cargo (just had equipment). In the original manual, some asteroids had hermits living on them. In both cases, there were places to dock, repair (and hide) that were outside of the standard space stations.

Also from the novel, there were restaurants and other facilities in mini space-stations within the system. I doubt an interstellar Burger King is going to care what legal status you have, provided you order an expensive enough meal.

If you install the Lave.oxp - you also get restaurants much as described in the novella. Hoopy Casinos also gives you another place to dock and the Behemoth oxp gives you big ship to dock with - these are all great but somewhat fruitless as you can't save the game at any of them - which means if you do a bit of trading - do well at say a rock hermit (buying large quantities of precious metals and stones for knockdown prices) or maybe you've done really well at a hoopy casino you then have to leave and fly to a main station to dock so you can save the game.

What happens if Oolite flakes out in between and/or you get jumped by something you can't handle and die on the way - you just end up with a very frustrated commander!

Saving at non-main stations I (and others) would say is a must for future updates of oolite...

the golden rule applies to Oolite as well.

You need to be a member of "The Order of Elite"

So spake The Grey Haired Commander

I'm still :?

I know three versions of the Golden Rule.

Do unto others etc.

He who has the gold etc.

He who makes the rules etc.

if they changed the system to make Offender and Fugitive a lot more long-lived or pro-active in your travelling to systems and cop interactions, maybe a little OXP idea would be to introduce a Rock Hacker - based on a quite unassuming asteroid they are bunches of geeky types who, for a large sum, would hack GalCop's puters and return your status to clean.

Think that could be done with an OXP.

Use in script a status = exiting Hyperspace, mission_hacked = false, legalstatus greaterthan 99, do set legal status 100.

That way once you are a fugitive, you stay a fugitive permenatley unless you get your status cleared by a hacker. Only once hacked, does your legal status start going down over time.

It'd be a 3 or 4K OXP to add Clones of Rock Hermits (but named Hacker Outpost) and add this feature. Will do a quick hack if people think its a good idea. Could probabley code somthing to stop the clearing of your status with an escape pod as well, with a status = ejecting do..

Hmmm, interesting proposition - as a generally all round nice guy it wouldn't affect me (accept when I accidently blow up everything when I ALT+TAB to change screens and detonate my energy bomb at the same time). Perhaps also have the option of offering the cops a big bung - just in case you can't find a hacker station and you're tired of running hot...

You could always code it up and let people try it out to see what happens...

Remind me, if Oolite ever goes MMORPG, I shouldn't be within 25Km of your ship :D .

"Did anyone else hear the sound of someone ALT+TAB-ing?"

I've stopped carrying an E-bomb for this very reason!

I got tired of attitude adjustments and trying to t*-cut polish viper beam pock marks out of my hull plating...

*thargoid-cut - their blood makes a very good fine surface polisher, etcher - probably best you don't ask how I know...

Or when you forget to sell contraband and launch yourself out into the ether (or whatever it is out there).
