Looks like you've removed or renamed the model for the Cobra Mk-III which the game uses for the startup screen.GoreLeech wrote:2006-12-26 21:36:36.000 oolite.exe[3536] ERROR - could not find cobra3_redux.dat

errr...?How? i just dl'ed it, and havent even touched the add-ons folder, let alone dl'ed an OXP. although that *cobra3_redux* file looks suspicious.....it is odd that i have the identical problem to the poster.......one bit of info that i must add is....where did he download it, because the berilos link somehow is down...just gives me the "white page of death" when i open in another window.....so i dl'ed it from the OoliteWiki link to Oolite-Windows at the directory link with this name "ftp://ftp.alioth.net/oolite" so maybe its a file corruption problem.......I dunno
*EDIT* i also tried the thing the link said to do above about graphics acceleration....no effect( just like Star Trek!)

wowzers........i found the picture's for the models..... i seem to have some files named like cobra3_redux1.png, and also a file named cobra3_redux.png (this one is fine-see below) ......these models seem to be a little wonky...i dunno how to post the picture, but it appears rather odd.......instead of the top of it being gray with a large light purple stripe towards the front, it is just sold gray...and for whatever reason, there is multiple thin blue stripes towards the bottom of the .png...someone lemme know how to post pictures, and ill see what i can do. also i DO have a cobra3_redux.dat so i dunno whats it problem is

That model is one that comes with the game (its not OXP), so suspect it just got messed up somehow. I'd do a reinstall of Oolite. Just one of those computer things!
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.
I have the very same dodgy HUD on WinXP, Pentium 4 with SiS661FX. Methinks could be that display adapter's problem.lolwhites wrote:Am running the latest version of Oolite, on a Pentium processor with Windows XP. Have just downloaded and installed the latest updates for my SiS 661FX graphics card and it still looks the same.
I was recently advised that these three error lines are the result if you try to start the game from the oolite.exe file directly... I may be mistaken, though...GoreLeech wrote:Warning - GNUSTEP_SYSTEM_ROOT is not set - using /c/GNUstep/System

I have exactly the same problem as described here (and the same SIS chip - with the drivers as of mid-april 2007), so it seems to be connected to the chip, not the programming.
The SIS chip has a somewhat bad reputation, so it wouldn't surprise me if the chip's the culprit. I have encountered several programs that specifically mentions something along the lines of "if you use SIS, forget it".
The SIS users do however get a very unique version of Oolite... like an "Oolite on acid". Apart from the "alternative" scanner, the bacground stars sometimes disappear and on other occasions the planet texture (but not the clouds) turn transparent once you get somewhat close to the planet. I have even experienced weird instances when the background stars (that is, the fixed stars, not the space dust) are only visible THROUGH the transparent planet.
The game itself is however fully playable and a vast improvement from the Amiga Elite I used to play.

That my friend has to be the understatement of the year.Jakob Kramer wrote:The game itself is however fully playable and a vast improvement from the Amiga Elite I used to play.

Definitely.
In Amiga Elite the drill was pretty much "Get a military laser. Mount it aft. Shoot pirates. Repeat for 5 months. Be Elite"
BTW I have installed the Custom Sounds AddOn by Milinks. It is a continuing source of smiles, when you exit a space station and find yourself flying towards a transparent planet... and then hear Dave's (2001: A Space Odyssey) amazed voice "My God, it's full of stars!"
