So my original tool is now lost to time (and my own Git purging lol), but I've been toying around with a new one, thats not quite ready yet, but has some interesting results:



Very random star colours haha! But all systems are connected, so no islands like in G7.

Tried adding star names...not quite right, but found one in particular highly amusing!

Damn typo!

The interactive maps transmogrify galaxy seeds into fully-detailed galaxies. Perhaps their code for generating names might be helpful? Marcoose's link is broken, but Phantorgorth's should still be good.

Are you asking for the algorithm that generates Elite-style planet names? If so,

I encourage you to expand the "Thought for 1m 2s" block, and have a read. It found the algorithm it used on github, but not in the Oolite github account, someone else's.

Phantorgorth has been decent enough to upload his javascript version of the "Galaxy Seed" Galaxy Generator to the wiki.

Also his map/region drawing programme.
