Hang on... is Cody excommunicated or not? What is going on here?
Well, we talked about it but the trouble is that we've all known him too long.
So we just came to the understanding that he'd have to flip his beermats upside down to denote being
officially unofficially excommunicado but was otherwise free to return to the bar.
To be honest, no one even checks...

- Issues with v1.0
- boas occasionally can't launch due to large rear end (...talk about mud flaps, my ships got'em...)
- pythons regularly dock like I used to (circa 1984) due to poor manouvrability and increased size relative to station
- slowing
station_roll
should help with both cosmetics and docking but changing it doen't seem to make any difference
What I can do in the meantime is (as suggested previously) rescale around the boa rather than the anaconda (not the moray as erroneously suggested on the wiki).
Another excuse to recondsider the maths...
Although the formula isn't spelled out here there are a few things to note.
I've included the in service date (estimated in some cases) to incorporate a miniaturisation factor re:
Elite Manual wrote:BOA CLASS CRUISER
Although marginally smaller than the Python, which it superseded, the Boa has a greater cargo capacity due to refinements in equipment design (e.g. the Renold Astrogation bloc is one fifth the size of the previous Machanalian Interspatial Wayfinder) and reduced number of necessary crew. Largely developed out of the recommendations left by Commodore Monty, a Python Captain of 40 years experience.
Top speed might also by eyebrow raiising in some cases but is both to reconcile my preference for a slower mk iii with it's given oolite value and
this... for which v1.1 includes a little script (LCB or speed).
The volumes are from the default Griff models, the recale factor is relative to the boa and the cube root is necessary for a volumetric rescale (shrunk/expanded in 3D).
The category names aren't really important besides highlighting a doubling of volume threshold (0-3, 4-6, 7-12 etc.)
Rather than make the (far too good IMHO) boa mk ii an anaconda beater (175TC vs 150TC), I've knocked 100TC off its capacity (it wasn't a B&B original ship) which both fits much better with its speed and also addresses a gap in the ship categories. The python cruiser is placed theoretically here as it's not one of the default models.
Affect to ship scaling (stations unchanged) is:
It's nearly ready but does anyone know how to get
station_roll
to work please?

I just did a quick test adjusting a station's roll via script & plist. It seemed to work fine- it slowed & sped up accordingly. It's not doing that for you?
Also, I just have to ask-

Not via shipdata-overrides, nope
... Maybe I've got some oxp conflict going on. I'll try it by script if I can work it out...

I wanted to rescale things because my system star was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf planet.
Always dial your speed up to 11 ...

Don't know if this'll help, but here's the shipdata-overrides.plist I used to test:
Code: Select all
{
oolite_template_coriolis-station = {station_roll = 0.01;};
oolite_template_dodecahedron-station = {station_roll = 0.3;};
oolite_template_icosahedron-station = {station_roll = -0.01;};
oolite_template_rock-hermit = {station_roll = -0.3;};
}

Pretty much what I tried except...
Code: Select all
"oolite_template_coriolis-station" =

station_roll = 0.01;
};
"oolite_template_dodecahedron-station" =
{
station_roll = 0.05;

station_roll = 0.05;

Can you see the problem when I was changing the first number?

Please explain to this dumb pilot - why do the quotation marks make so much difference? What are they supposed to denote?

They don't, you can use them or not: either/or.
What DOES make the difference is that I had unknowingly set the rotation for coriolois stations twice. Therefore whatever I changed with regards to the first value was being overwritten by the second (which I wasn't changing during my testing).

Happens to all of us. A few days ago, I spent practically the entire day chasing down a bug. It came down to the following (not the actual code but you get the picture):
Code: Select all
for (let APPLE = 1; APPLE <= 10 ; KOALABEAR++)
And the thing is that I've made this same stupid mistake before. You'd think I'd have learned by now…

It's like we can learn to avoid some common mistakes but not the most stupid ones
You're sat there, wondering why you can't get any pens to work, only to eventually realise that you're holding them all by the wrong end... AGAIN

- v 1.1 available...
- rescaled around boa (enables their launching from stations)
- slowed station rotation (enables easier docking from mobility compromised ships)
- added script that means a choice between large cargo bay or speed
The chart and diagram above aren't entirely accurate but are close enough for me not to bother reposting at this time.
Still lots more to come from this in the future I hope but this update should at least address the known issues.

Just came across another intriguing Aegidianistical tweak (Fer de Lance):
Classic Elite FdL: staff 12, cargo
2TC
Oolite FdL: staff 12 (unstated), cargo
12TC
And this is of course the ship that he designed the Mega-Walnut Dashboard OXP for!

Yes, and it was quite a clever one in that it meant there could be two passenger cabins in addition to the canonical elite cargo hold.
Elite Manual wrote:The spacious hull is mainly given over to sophisticated weaponry, defences and navigation equipment at the expense of cargo capacity. Cabin accommodation is large and luxurious
And so he was converting quite faithfully despite the apparent rethink. Could perhaps even have made it 18TC for 3 berths but the basic idea was a good one I think.
