I might go for the reinstall and see how that goes. Will I need to install the extras before trying to transfer the save files? Sounds like something to do in the morning. Thanks for the advice.

Keep a backup copy of your save files, do a clean install of vanilla Oolite, run that and make a basic Jameson save.
Then, if all is well, you can copy the save files into the correct folder. Good luck!

Tried a new approach and have got a good result. Updated my version and saved new Jameson commander all OK. Transferred saves and couldn't see any again so figured it must be a corrupted saves. When I started moving some of the older ones thay were fine so tracked it down to the very latest save, all others fine. I even had one that was only an hour or two older than latest so no great harm done. Also found the new scrolling galactic chart which is a bonus. Thanks to all for your help and welcome. Hopefully I can now continue on to get my elite ranking. Something I never did with Spectrum Version.
