The CPU/MB/RAM will go all in one so i can test them.

You can test that bundle before fitting it into the case too - simply jump-start the mobo (with it connected to the PSU, of course).

That's the way i do it. Especially when i am troubleshooting and i have to test many parts.

Another question, would the PSU I've selected be enough, the CORSAIR 650W VS SERIES™ VS-650 POWER SUPPLY, or would getting a CORSAIR 750W CS SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET be a better idea?

I've also changed the mobo to the ASUS® H97M-E: Micro-ATX, LG1150, USB 3.0, SATA 6GBs instead, as this has 4x DIMMs. Only thing is, Windows 7 Home Premium can only use up to 16GB of RAM anyway...

Options and price-creep - 'twere ever thus! The 750W PSU is only £16 more, I believe - and Win 7 Pro an extra £30.
Both worth it, in my opinion. I'm putting a Corsair RM 750W into my new build - and I also have a GTX 770 GPU.

GTX 770 (and GTX 780) have minimum power requirements a system with 600W PSU so it will be ok a 650W. But i went to a 760W to be in the safe side.

I am leaning towards i7 4790K with the on die GPU (no need for a GPU on the M/B).

<nods> The extra power can be handy for potential future expansion (SLI), plus he gets the quieter, modular PSU - fewer cables, which means better airflow.

Just saw your edit - are you sure the IGP will suffice? You can always slap a GPU in later, of course.
My machine is built around an i5 4670K CPU - which I've had for six months already.

i5s still have plenty o' shelf-life, I'd reckon. My old Pentium 4 is still good for some sorts of computing .

I mean you don't need a M/B with onboard GPU for backup. I am aiming to a GTX 770 too.

I have an i7 in my "gaming laptop". Its good, and future proofed for longer, but I wish I had got a better GPU.

I'm not a fan of Windows but Linux confuses me and Apple is just a overpriced designer label... I'm sure it's great if you're a musician or graphics designer but for the average joe like me it's not really worth the price tag.

Saying that a Mac is cheaper than the £7K system above!

That works the other way round as well. I haven't got a clue how the current Windowses work! A friend has a dual-boot Fedora/Windows 7 machine and the Windows side might as well be Thargoid for all the sense it makes to me.

I've never used Apple at all (too expensive) but friends who do tell me it is excellent. I guess you pays your money and take your choice as in so much of life.

I hear good things about Apple (and Linux) but I really just can't get to grips with either. There's something about Apple that I really don't like and I think it's the whole "buy me I'm a fashion accessory" thing. I'm sure if I gave it a chance it would be ok but as everything I have game wise that isn't for PS3 is Windows there's not much point in switching... Same with Linux except I do have Ubuntu on a USB drive for when my laptop decides it doesn't want to boot into Windows 8 so I can boot into Linux reset and then load into Windows...hence why my next PC will have Windows 7 on!

I haven't used a monitor in years, not since HDMI output on PC. I use my 40"TV instead!

Although that pic has my laptop connected to my pc, I usually have a mini tower connected to use to watch films on stored on the external hard drive .
