Aha. On Mint, though, please?
Not tried Mint I don't think - I think I've only done it with Ubuntu. Going from 11.10 to 12.04 and then from 12.10 to 13.04 (which is the one that went horribly wrong
).

Sorry about that UK_Eliter - I managed to miss your question here. In answer though, I haven't ever tried a distribution upgrade on Mint. You might set up a virtual machine and try doing it on the VM to see how it goes.

Thanks, CommRLock78, for the reply and for the advice. However, I am hesitant about taking the advice. That's because it seems involved - at least for someone with little Linux knowledge - and I'm a bit exhausted by computers at the moment. I have to keep three setups going - Windows 8 on my desktop, and on the (dual-booted) laptop Windows XP and Mint, and it's all a bit much (given that: Windows XP is, in my experience, horribly buggy; Windows 8 is somewhat buggy; I don't know my around Linux; and Linux/Mint doesn't easily do what I want sometimes). Still, I do rather tweak all the Windows installations (for maximum performance under yesterday's hardware) and I do try to get Mint just the way I like it . . Also, I have to help my knows-little-about-computers girlfriend quite a lot.

No worries - 'twas just a thought, anyway
