Right - peeps have had a chance to have a good look at it ... feedback more substantial than "good" etc is welcome.
Then I can work it into the next release.

Right now I have in mind adding flashers inside those big intake-looking things, with maybe a glowing spinning ball or more complicated shape and rotating the cog-effect in the exhaust.

Still wrestling with a normal map ... I could just map in Maori-style tattoos or waka carvings...
kowhaiwhai may be more culturally sensitive though.

For me, what works best on any ship is: bright colours, bold designs! It's easy to get carried away with close-up detail, but most of the time, when you see them in the game, ships are actually pretty small. I'd vote for a Chris Foss-esque colour scheme.

This is my first close encounter with the Tanipha

I like the shape. I think it would be even better with some colour on the hull. Maybe some stripes on the wings and the tatoos. Or the engine covers with a different colour (or colouring the rest of the whip, leaving the covers in metal colour).

Thanks for the feedback :)
I'm returning to this in the next week (I've been occupied).

I'm especially interested in anyone who wants to do a custom script or AI to contribute.
Paintjobs are things you can do if you want to experiment - you can add a layer to the diffuse map (don't let the alpha channel put you off).
Make the painted layer slightly transparent before applying.

I'll be working on the animated sections for the next update but anyone who gets a paintjob in that I like will find it used.
