Must say that I don't think I ever saw his posts, but from what read here, he got a warning and a second warning and did not heed them - so he deserved the punishment as well. I've actually seem people come back after such punishments with better attitudes in the past. Most of them never return, of course. Some idiots change their IP and create a new forum ID, but do not realise that their writing styles are easily recognised if they continue their previous type of behavior.

He was distinctly unpleasant in his PMs too, when asked nicely to start his topics in the correct sub-forum...

He won't be missed from an attitude POV.

(He did say he was kicked off IRC didn't he - we should have known!)

Yes he was and in double quick time too. IRC is a different fish to a forum. A bad egg can ruin a channel faster than a forum. The ban came about because I gave him and someone else a warning about reveling someone's death (Chavez) and saying that another person should be. I don't care if he thinks that I just won't have that sort of talk in a public channel, particularly as there could be children about.
He decided the following morning to have a go at me supposedly about something else that happened at about the same time which was a guise for the complaining about the warning. A few insults and accusations from him later I had to ban. In the three years I have been moderating the oolite IRC channels I have only had to ban one other person. It's rather sad but I see him as a troll. And you don't put up with nor feed trolls.

Unlike here in the BB my bans for trolling and causing trouble are more permanent. Though I may remove them after a couple of years :-).

Phantor.

Ah yes, the 'electric universe' troll... he just didn't know when to desist (or had no wish to desist, more like).

That's the one.

Had some discussions with him off-line in his native language. It was not a language issue, I can tell you that much. I think his main issue was not being able to refrain from posting/discussing "alternative theories" of the universe in which he had a strong belief. Some of them were quite interesting, but "slightly" eccentric and a little  off topic.

The 'electric universe' idea is indeed quite interesting... but zealots, of any persuasion, drive me crackers.
