They bother me too, as does much of TDW (which I chose to ignore a long time ago) - even Drew's fiction doesn't fit with Oolite the game.
Agreed.

It could simply be treated as a reference tool to find mentions of different planets, characters, ships, items, etc...

When it comes to cannon, I think most of us that write all have our own spin on it, the majority of us agree on the major details, but vary wildly in others.

I personally write as though the witchspace jump is near instantaneous, and the time adjustment is because you are always advancing through time aside from the outside world. Other have written it as taking the number of hours it says on the clock.
I don't consider that wrong, I just think of it as a different interpretation and a darn good one at that.

 Thank you for making me smile! :D

Maybe we should call it "The Oolite Cannon" - as a not-quite-so-subtle reminder that the info in the database is not really "canon". :P

Darn my useless spelling ability.

I might have a play with a database later.

The Oolite Cannon sounds good to me.

That's always been my interpretation as well (although my fiction was not about Oolite specifically - I wrote it long before there _was_ Oolite ;) )

My observations:

Lazarus was written to write in the existence of Constores into the Ooniverse and to coincide with the first full set of ship re-imaginings (SimonB's Neolite pack) outside Griff's excellent work (the difference being that Griff's were very much in keeping with the original ship shapes)

Snake Charming was to support the Race Team OXP that never happened and introduced a new "weapon" (of my own concept) that then independently became an OXP (the witchspace tunnel mine)

The DaddyHoggy in both these stories is incongruous to the DaddyHoggy in Drew's fiction (deliberately on Drew's part).

YAH has added hundreds of new companies and concepts to the Ooniverse, some of these are then magnified in fiction (The Level 23 "Gentleman's club" a YAH Ad by Pangloss features in Lazarus) and in Snoopers which is both and OXP but adds hundreds of tiny pieces of fiction into the Ooniverse...

So, I wish you the very best of luck!

I agree that an index of fiction and cannon would be useful.

Maybe it should just be the Oolite Encylco(o)pedia?

edit: sorry that this topic is a bit old.

I can understand all the discussion concerning canon vs cannon but why not keep it simple:

Cody's Wonderful world of Oolite Facts and fictions Vol.1 et al.
OR Oolite: Believe It Or Not
OR Stranger Than Fiction: The Saga of Oolite by various authors
OR Oolite Anthology: The sheep have looked to the skies
Or anything other that lets the reader know that there is a tongue in cheek element in the stories.???
