SeƱor Cody is it? What an imaginative fellow, and experimental as well. Your discovery just saved me a lot of flight time. Not your method exactly. A couple fuel tanks did the trick just as well.

You mean midway jump-points? I think it was Eric the Navigator who first suggested that idea - some years ago now, so I can't be sure. Using drop-tanks (or something similar), several backdoor routes are to be found dotted around the Eight, not to mention the more complicated variety, which involve multiple misjumps.

Precisely, mid-way jump points. After reading Ideal Victim, it occurred to me that I must try it out in my home galaxy, chart 1. But eyeballing the probability of success is not easy. Unless you have some hidden knowledge, Master Cody, it has to be attempted.

In my own case, it's a matter of judgement/feeling... and experimentation.
As I recall, I think both Switeck and PG had methods for discovering them in advance (especially the multi-misjump backdoor routes).

Really can't get this to work - I've followed other ships through their wormholes several times now, every time it wouldn't throw me out mid-way no matter what I did.
Does the amount of time after the wormhole is opened make a difference? I generally wait until the wormhole forms before moving towards it, would I have better luck if I followed really close and went through within a few seconds?
Of course this is trivially easy if you load the Fuel Tanks add-on; just buy three tanks, fit them instead of missiles, use your own warp and crash out, then refuel while cloaked (to avoid Thargoids), select the system that's in range on the other side of the rift, and warp to it. But it feels like cheating.

It is a matter of timing - and it's hard to describe. Even when you get the knack, you might not time it right every time.
As you say, it's straightforward using OXPs - but if possible, I prefer to do such stuff using the game's own mechanic.
You can have Articeso already entered as the destination, btw - it saves a few seconds.

Well, try and try and try again... I finally got the knack (more or less) and managed to pull it off, after an embarrassing series of attempts that either didn't work or ended up midway to the next system in the wrong direction etc. because I was trying to get into the warp REALLY early. Now parked at the Torus station at Articeso, and wondering how I get back - I assume that there's something similar in the other direction.

Aye, there is an exit - down at the other end of the Rift Worlds sector (which I believe Solo is currently cruising through - and I'm parked-up at Articeso too).

I'm going to explore fairly thoroughly before I head out again, can't see any point heading straight back.
later - even though it really seems to be a bit of a back-water; lucrative cargo and parcel contracts VERY thin on the ground.

Aye, it's a shame that contracts can't connect to/from the Rift Worlds - it'd have some pilots scratching their heads.
Mind you, it doesn't stop those damn assassins ambushing me!

How did this part of the galaxy work in the original Elite? Was the misjump trick possible there, or was there some other way across?

Not as far as I'm aware. The 'unreachables' were always just that - unreachable!

Wikipedia seems to think it was possible to misjump into them, but only escape by galactic hyperdrive. Not sure how accurate that is.

I gotta feel for the pilot of the Cobra Mk III Cup of Xeonar - I misjumped him into interstellar space, and all five of the waiting Thargoid warships laid in to him, ignoring Spindrifter completely. I quickly weighed-up the odds and jumped on out fast, hoping he'd survive long enough to follow - which he did, four missiles lighter and throwing sparks! He must have been right on the verge of blowing!

Something similar happened to me this evening, had to leave the poor sod to his fate and hope he'd use my wormhole to escape (he didn't). So I was congratulating myself on having finally got back across the rift after umpteen attempts... when I ran into some sort of elite pirate group who took me apart in about ten seconds!
So here I am, South of the rift again, trying to decide whether to make umpteen more attempts to get back, or give up on galaxy 7 and take a galactic hyperjump back to 1. VERY annoying!
