Looks like quite a big ask. Not the funding, but the build.
Ready by Jan 2014, working 40 hours a week on top of studying? A single man team. He might be insane before he's finished.
Good luck to him though. Looks worth a punt!
Cheers,
Drew.

[...] much of the three months was spent developing core engine technology, since the engine is being built from scratch. [...]
If we look at what he has already achieved in only 3 months, it is quite great.

I think Commander McLane said it well. He has something to show while Elite Dangerous leans heavenly on some tech demo's and fan art. Till now I've backed no project. But that is due to my RL situation.

Voting for streched goals up.
Procedural music quite impressive (check the short #10 sample).
Almost half of the initial goal reached.
This guy is simply amazing

Fixed that for you.

Thanks for posting about it, CMcL, I just pledged for the last $15 option to get a copy of the game

Lucky guy!
Although they were already sold out earlier today. I suspect that somebody upped their pledge, making their slot available again. I also suspect this to happen more often, as people get more and more excited about the game.
(By the way: I'm also on the $15 tier for the moment, but prepared to move up quite some way, if and when a Mac version becomes more than just a possibility.)

Yep I pledged $15 too, even Chris Roberts dropped in to say hello and show support. I wonder if David Braben will do likewise? Josh is backing Elite IV after all so it seems only fair David returns that gesture.
And yes it's ambitious, but looking at the vid he made, I couldn't help thinking back to the 80s when David & Ian were about his age, their "project" was very ambitious too!

I doubt it. He's clearly not into that whole Kickstarter thing. "First created • 0 backed". His interest is to market his own project, nothing else.
Of course he may have a second, anonymous account, and he may back
Limit Theory from there. But publicly returning the gesture? I don't really see that.

I'd be prepared to pledge more if he makes the physical goodies available as add-ons to the pledge.

He does have a second account under the name of David Braben. I know he backed Star Citizen with that account. Has the same picture as his Frontier Development account. The link to it came up in a comment on the E:D Kickstarter page.
Edit 1: Of course, it could be an imposter, but the consensus was that the account was genuine.

Ooo... That means I have to punt up $50 (whatever that converts to in GBP).
