Wooo! Welcome to the Ooniverse! :D

Don't go mad installing every OXP you can. Its recommended to stick with eye-candy first so you can understand how everything works first. I have a list of Recommended OXPs on the wiki.

Check Game Options, theres a volume control in there, alternatively check your computer's volume control, you may have muted it! :twisted:

Do you get sound in other programs?

im getting sound in others and it looks like the sound is up in the game setting although when i try to adjust it low the game instantly shuts down, also if i turn on the voices in the game setting i can here them say voices on or whatever they say, but no music pre game,no lazers and no hyperdrive noise, or other in game sounds..

weird or what?

64cousins: You should open up the software center - if there's an option to un-install Oolite, then the old version is hasn't been successfully removed. It sounds like you did a home install, so open a terminal and type

Code: Select all

$ '~/Oolite/uninstall'
and remove the current version. Then type

Code: Select all

$ '~/<path to install file>/install'
which will give another home folder install

Code: Select all

$ sudo '~/<path to install file>/install'
will give a system-wide install.
Essentially try un-installing and re-installing once more, with first making sure you have the old version removed.

Myself I have become more of a fan of system-wide installs, since I don't by rote keep application files in my home folder, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, try this, once more, and then post how things are working. We'll get this working (I'm running Mint 13, too).... what type of hardware do you have? Is the sound on-board or do you have a discrete sound card?

i dont know how to enter the path to the install file, the terminal is tricky so i would need exact instructions to use it.. im bumbling around here i know.

but i looked into the sofeware manager and there were 3 other Oolite files that hadn't been deleted one of which was sound data. i unistalled them all but no change them unistaled and reinstalled oolite, should i down load a fresh oolite before intalling?

To start, no worries 64, we all had to learn things at one point (and most of us are still learning ;) ). Okay, so the path to the install file is a snap:
* open the file browser and navigate to the folder containing the install file
* open a terminal
* if you want the system wide install (my recommendation) type 'sudo'
* then, you can simply drag and drop the install tile into the terminal and it will automatically
put in the correct path (see code at the bottom of this post)
* hit enter (and type your password if you used sudo)
* hit 'S' when asked

Again, be sure any residual installs are removed, follow these instructions, and let us know how it worked.

Code: Select all

robert@Mint13-DX4860 ~ $ sudo '/opt/Oolite/uninstall'
After you've dragged and dropped the file in the terminal, it should look something like this (this is my actual uninstall file's location, with sudo in front).

Excellent - glad to see you're back in the game :mrgreen: . This board is great for more than just support, so stick around :D.

Oh yeah, if you edit your first post you can mark the thread [Solved] ;).

No need... I'm a contented Windows user, and have been for many years. Not that I haven't tried penguinese... the machine before this one had a flavour of penguin installed first (followed by XP 64bit <sighs>, and thence to XP 32bit). Windows 7 beckons now though... hmm.
