I'm not an addict

No, seriously, I'm not, but I used to be. Even semi-flunked some exams because of nightly furball marathons.

But... Real Life got in the way, eventually, and now... I'm still intrigued by it, but hardly ever play anymore (losing several savegames just before reaching Elite 'helped in that respect )

Also, playing on an 13'' laptop isn't the same as on a bigass screen , immersion is much reduced, for me... But to buy a desktop or extra screen for Oolite is just a step too fa for me.

The BB on the other hand... I keep coming back to it. :°

If your "significant other" enquires about your Elite/Oolite/Frontier/Pioneer obsession, take some time to explain it to them. If they still don't get it, well that's their problem

Most definitely a serious addict, but in my defence; I see it as therapy....

I haven't been playing very much lately, but when I do, its about an hour a day.

I am Yah-T-Hey Spirit Warrior of the Dineh. I am addicted to OOLITE.
Used to spend 1 hr a night until my woman said I was spending too much time immersed and not enough time with her..... after a couple of early get togethers, I now have all night to immerse with my womans blessing. I love that woman!!!!! Just gave her a 4 day vacation to a luxury resort located in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Very happy woman now.

The problem is that erm... I 'overexplained' it a bit. That's why she says I'm an addict.

MrsTalisker (soon to be actually Mrs Talisker, despite the Oolite 'problem') is mostly glad it's helped with my Dungeon Crawl addiction

I now play them much less combined than when there was one overriding obsession, so I guess it's kinda like the methadone of retrogaming?

(I think I'm somewhere between an hour and four now, life has gotten hectic but my playtime can still encompass a couple of cargo contracts on a weeknight.)

Thanks everyone, I hope that after that cleansing we can all move on in our chosen professions (trader, bounty hunter, pirate, miner, courier, assassin, ship restoration specialist, gambler...).

Now it appears that I didn't actually declare my addiction or otherwise. Hmmm denial? Isn't that an early sign of addiction? I got me coming and going.

I started with Elite on my old C64, probably got as far as completing the Constrictor Hunt...then upgraded to an Amiga. Soon after, high school and university then a new career took over (I did take time out to try out Frontier, though; gave me a practical use for all that first year physics study...)

Hell, I only stumbled onto Oolite while lurking in some long forgotten Slashdot user comment.

So I may not be addicted, but I'm certainly a long time user...

Having lurked here for a while I thought I'd register and say hello and to explain how I have now managed to become an addict (and drag my dad in too!)
I used to play elite with my dad on a borrowed BBC B (with twin cumana's - state of the art ) and 30+ years later we're both oolite players. Being retired now he's got more time to play so he's off in some galaxy far, far away making millions while I'm spending about an hour a day plodding about in gal2... but OXP swapping and oolite conversation still dominates our discussions when we get together (to our other relatives dismay!)

Since seeing the little drawing of the Python class cruiser in the manual all those years ago I knew I just had to have one. Bizarely it is very similar to my "real life" car - an old landrover defender - as it feels clanky, probably smells odd and is a bit tricky to park unless you have the "knack" I also like to think the PCC leaves a little bit of oil behind in its docking bay when it leaves.

There must be dozens of parallels between real life cars and oolite ships and I'm sure I'm not the only one to have wished I had a Quirium mine fitted when driving about

Anyway, thanks to you all for your hard work in making the game and running the board / wiki.
(off now to paint a sharky face on my car)

Nice to hear you've got a 'proper' 4x4. There are a few petrol-heads here on the board so you are in good company.
Oddly I've never thought about my cars in terms of Oolite ships but then that's probably because my slightly knackered 30 year old Capri 2.8i is probably much like a Krait - Old and obsolete, harder to maintain as time passes, but great fun (when it goes ).
I suppose my 'main' car (Mondeo ST220 Estate) is a Cobra Mk III - It's just a great all-rounder!

It was my Dad who introduced me to Elite when I was about four or five and he was my age now. Now I'm 24 and he's 45!
