Coincidentally, Snork, I had my first encounter with an Asp last mission. Like you, I blasted it till it turned tail and could do little but bid it a fond farewell as it hurtled off into the distance.
I'm happy to say I'm doing much better in combat now I have a joystick, especially since I downloaded the Target Reticle OXP. It seems expensive at 7500, but definitely worth every credit to me as I'm never sure about the precise point of aim with a standard laser sight.
I'm using both pylon slots for tanks from the Fuel Tank OXP, 6ly of fuel contributing far more to my Health & Safety than a couple of missiles.

Don't forget that you can have a 3LY Auxiliary Fuel Tank fitted internally, so you don't need to lose a pylon :)

I have tried, Smivs -- several times, in fact -- but can't see the item in the Ship Outfitting list, despite having copied ExtraFuelTanks.oxp into my AddOns folder. (Accessories, Delightful Docking and Smivs' ShipSet all worked fine, I should point out -- it's just Extra Fuel Tanks that has me baffled).
I suppose I should have queried it, but, being a newcomer, I'm unsure what the appropriate channel is. Do members normally raise such issues in the general forum, or contact the author directly?

If it's an OXP problem, that OXP's own thread in the Expansion Pack sub-forum is the best place to mention it.
It also serves to 'bump' the author's work... heh.

It may be that you haven't yet docked with a station in a high enough Tech Level system.. They are only available at TL10+ systems, according to the readme.

That's strange, both the reserve and auxiliary should appear at first until you buy one. Remember they are only available from Tech-level 10 or higher, and that often there is more than one page of equipment available.
Could you try re-installing it, starting the game (checking that you are at a TL10+) and look again. If they are definitely not there, then close the game and make a copy of your latest log. Then post your latest log on the OXPs thread. That way we can check if the OXP is installing correctly.
As EV says, normally problems like this are best posted in the thread for the OXP.

With regards to contract-hauling, you might find it helpful to look over a post I just made in another thread.

Or just the one in which I replied to the above quoted post? The one right beneath it...

Smivs: I'll do that, though I'll have to read up on how to post a log first. :?

Diziet Sma: In fact I keep a commander called Onrira-test based (unsurprisingly) at Onrira -- level 14 -- for this very purpose. Thanks for the thread reference re contract hauling -- I'll check it out asap.

(I'll have to get to grips with this [quote] facility you guys use. As you'll no doubt have guessed, I'm as new to forums as I am to Oolite. The fact that replies tend to come faster than pirates round a stranded Boa doesn't help). :(

Commander McLane & Diziet Sma: See what I mean? Replies are hitting me faster than I can type. I'm just glad Oolite isn't multiplayer -- you Elite types would be merciless with us noobs, admit it!

See "Someone asked me for my log file. What is that, and where is it?" under Diagnosing Problems on the Wiki.

Ha! That was me nearly three years ago (crikey... three years), and now look at me... still a dumb pilot!

Thanks for this -- having been firtling around for 10 frustrating & fruitless minutes, I was just about to ask if anyone knew where the log files were stored on a Mac (and please don't get me started on how Mac OS X likes to 'hide' useful stuff from the user! When I want to download and save a YouTube vid I have to fire up my old laptop running Windows XP to see the complete set of Temporary Internet Files. Mind you, Windows 7 is just as bad -- I can't see 'em on my brand new netbook either).

Anyway, rant over. Smivs, I've done what you suggested, but even at Onrira I still can't see the items in question in the extended [3] list. I'll post the log (fingers crossed) in the OXP thread as requested.
