Am I right in thinking that 1 keypress of the pitch controls gives an increment step? I often find that a ship can be in a position (particularly when far away) so that one keypress takes your crosshairs above it, and another keypress back takes your sight below it.
I think there has been talk, in a previous thread, of a modifier key that fine tunes your motion. This would solve the problems discussed on this thread and still give the element of gameplay and skill desired.

like:
hold down [SHIFT] to enable precision controlls, that decrease the 'anglemotion per key press' by a tenfold. ?
I think that would be a great addition as I, for one, get very annoyed when I can't get my crosshairs over that annoying pixel.
Hold on to your seat, this could be a stupid question...
Is one notified about the range of a target?
It could be usefull knowledge to know whether your lasers can actually reach the offending pixel.
I agree on the feasabillity of 'zoom'-tech, however the dogfights are what make the game exciting. It would be usefull in softening up large packs of highly maneuvrable pirates or an occasional missile though.

I've been looking at this and it seems I've goofed up badly.
The current sensitivity of the controls is FIXED, when it should vary according to the craft you're flying.
As I correct that I'll look at adding a fine-control option.

The Scanner Targeting Enhancement upgrade allows you to see the range to the current target.

yes, the
Scanner Targeting Enhancement gives a target range and taps into the GalCop databank to inform of the legal status.
it's very useful.

can we have a laser cooling unit
maybe converting laser temp into cabin temp
say at a rate of 3:1
may cost energy

I'd support that kind of idea. I'm not too worried about
what the disadvantage(s) of the cooling unit would be, whether using witchdrive fuel, energy or life support capacity. I just wish that I could buy one. It would be nice when I meet two Wolf MkIIs and a collection of tagalongs in some anarchic pesthole somewhere... Mind you, given that that situation regularly gets me pasted in embarrassingly short order, the cooling unit would probably just let me last a bit longer before I died anyway

Ah...the dream of the eliteer...
Go ahead and OXP one.
edit: Too much fun to pounce on the new ones.
edit2: this has also been discussed somewhere else, we even mentioned coolingvanes that could be shot off. etc.

Here you can find some comments by Aegidian on the topic.
I'm happy to note btw, that the BBS-search function works fine for me nowadays.

I know! What Oolite really needs is to be more like Frontier!
(Oddly, this is familiar to you, as if it were from an old dream, but you can't exactly remember…)

Hey! I'm going as fast as I can! I can't model and texture all the Frontier ships at the same time, you know.
I _do_ have a manual to write too, you know!!!
Oolite doesn't need to be like Frontier. Frontier was poo compared to Elite (and especially Oolite). The ships look cool though, hence why I keep converting the buggers.
